Chapter 37 by android1966 android1966

How does the Akkadian reply?

The Akkadian is mostly truthful.

"Mistress...Nesbit." The name suddenly occuring to the Akkadian of the whores guild's leader. "If I might beg a favour."

The whores council looked to one another a moment before nodding cautiously. "Go on Minaja and ask." Nesbit replied. "But I can make no promises about honouring your request until I have heard it."

"If I may talk to you a moment in private concerning what occurred last night?" The assassin requested. "There are certain facts I need to divulge that I believe you would not want heard by any not of the guild."

The Akkadian looked pointedly at Naerwyn as he spoke. The thief looked annoyed at the suggestion, but held her tongue. The Akkadian felt awkward about excluding his new friend, but his reasons were twofold. Firstly he intended to edit his account of what had happened at Trimon's so that no mention of Naerwyn impersonating a whore's guild member was made. Secondly he hoped to avoid revealing the truth about himself to his companion.

"I see." Nesbit responded as she mulled the assassin's request over. "As a guild member of good standing you do indeed have the right to private audiance with me. So far we know little enough of what occurred to directly accuse you of any crime. I will grant your request, but be warned I will most likely be relating what you have to say to the other guild council members."

The Akkadian nodded his understanding of Nesbit's terms. The guildmistress rose from her throne and beckoned to the assassin. He was led from the council hall to a far smaller chamber through an archway. Nesbit closed the door and took a seat behind a large table and looked at the Akkadian expectantly.

"Mistress Nesbit I must regretfully inform you that your guild sister Minaja has been kidnapped by the woman known as the Sorceress." The Akkadian told the senior whore of Al Areth.

Mistress Nesbit looked understandably surprised by the assassin's statement and peered at him suspiciously. "Indeed? And if Minaja is a prisoner of the Sorceress then who is standing before me?"

"My name is not known in Al Areth, however those that know of me here refer to me as the Akkadian." The assassin revealed.

"Ah yes, an assassin of some repute." Nesbit responded. "I have heard tales of you. I presume your present appearence is sorcery of some description?"

"Exactly so Mistress." The Akkadian confirmed. "Though I am unskilled in the magical arts, I surmise the witch needed Minaja present in the flesh in order to precisely transform by body to be her duplicate."

"A logical assumption." Nesbit agreed. "Continue."

"I had no foreknowledge of the Sorceress's intentions." The Akkadian truthfully insisted. "Only that she had a contract for me. When I met with her as arranged, Minaja was already her prisoner. This sorcery was wrought upon me without my consent and though I protested, the foul Sorceress **** my compliance in her scheme by promising to restore me once I had slain Trimon."

"And yet after you were alone with Trimon he exited his compound somehow bewitched?" Nesbit prompted the Akkadian.

"Yes, the witch betrayed me once more." The assassin explained. "The blade the Sorceress gave me to slay Trimon was spelltrapped, when the warlord was struck, instead of slaying him it enthralled him in some manner to the Sorceress. Her intention was that I should then be killed, however with Naerwyn of Tortage's assistance I was able to escape."

"And what of Minaja?" Nesbit demanded. "Where is my guildsister?"

"Two dead Minajas instead of just the one she planned would have caused investigation." The Akkadian theorised. "I expect the Sorceress smuggled her out of Al Areth and took Minaja to her fortress. The Sorceress has a lust for beautiful women, I doubt she will have had Minaja slain yet."

Will Nesbit accept the Akkadian's explanation?
