What's next?

That first night

Following your tour of the apartment, you wait patiently as Rachel goes through her usual night-time routine. You feel restless, not only for the turbulence that you've experienced over the last week, but also because you are hopeful that it will cause you to grow closer with Rachel. Despite having dated for quite a little while, you have yet to sleep with her. You can't hope but feel your new living arrangement may finally help the two of you break through the final boundaries of intimacy.{if Small issue = true} However, with that situation comes a whole new set of anxieties. Your whole life you've been nervous of taking that first step with a girl due to your fear of never quite measuring up to expectations.{endif}

Rachel exits the bathroom to find you standing awkwardly. She smiles coyly, "I suppose you're just about ready for bed?" You nod eagerly. Not too eagerly you hope. Rachel confidently takes your hand and tows you behind her. Just as she reaches the door to her room, she turns and leads you instead into her spare room, where a couch sits neatly along the shared wall. "You should have everything you need in the closet there. Sheets, pillows, blankets..." She seems to take a few moments to study your response. "I know most guys share a bed with their girlfriends but I just think we should take things slow for now, ya know? You might have moved in out of necessity, but we should treat our relationship like nothing's changed."

You look at your girlfriend as she delivers the bad news. You can't help but feel your heart deflate a bit. Not wanting to pressure her, you give your best smile and graciously thank her for letting you stay.
