Thanksgiving Break: Leah visits Jonathan's Family

The Thanksgiving trek to Jonathan's parents wasn't very long. They only lived a couple of hours away from Jonathan and Leah. The trip was pretty easy even if the traffic from all the other people traveling for Thanksgiving did congest the roads. They had left plenty early in order to avoid problems.

Leah had met Jonathan's family before so it wasn't her first time seeing the "Jonathan clan."

"Who all is coming to stay again?" Leah asked as Jonathan pulled off the exit ramp onto a smaller city road.

"My parents, obviously, Luke and his wife, and maybe someone else? My mom didn't say exactly. At least they are the ones staying there."

"Well at least your parents have a nice big place." Leah said. Leah wasn't lying. Jonathan was becoming an engineer and his family wasn't exactly poor. If anything they were upper middle class. They didn't own yachts but they weren't struggling.

They soon drove through a nice suburban area, a place clearly created by "White Flight" from the nearby busy city in which all these upper middle class people would work and then flee to the refuge of their homogenous habitats.

Jonathan parked the car and they emerged to a Hallmark greeting. Jonathan's mother emerged followed by his father and they had embraced their son then turned to give Leah a hug. Tammy, Jonathan's mother, was a short round woman with a friendly disposition with her graying brown hair cut short above the shoulders. She waddled toward Leah after giving her son a hug then gave Leah a squeeze.

"Oh Leah so good to see you again!" she embraced Leah "How was the drive?"

"It was good" Leah said as she struggled to breathe from the tight squeeze she received.

"I am glad, we are so looking forward to y'all coming." Tammy released her and smiled. Tommy, Jonathan's father was tall and thin his short graying hair matching his wife's.

"Hey Leah!" He smiled as he moved in for a hug.

"Hey Tommy," she said with a smile expected from a future daughter in law. The two embraced and Leah felt Tommy's arms linger on her back. It was a very...intense hug. When Tommy finally released her his hands slid along her arms until he stepped away.

"Y'all need a hand with your bags?" he asked.

"I think I can get them dad." Jonathan said as he popped the trunk and began to overload himself. Leah stood awkwardly for a moment before remembering her hand bag and a small travel bag in the front seat. She turned to go grab them.

The two settled into the 4 bed room 3 and a half bath house easily. There bonus rooms too not including a fancy dining room. Luke and his wife Ashley hadn't arrived yet because they were coming from out of state.

Jonathan and Leah spent some time settling in and relaxing with Tommy and Tammy before Luke and his wife appeared in the driveway. Luke helped his very pregnant wife Ashley out of their car. She must have been at least 8 months along. Everyone exchanged greetings and there was another round of hugs before everyone moved inside. Even though it was the deep South--Thanksgiving time had a bitter chill in the cold evening air.

Everyone settled in and plans were discussed of what they would do the next day.
