THE MIGHTY LANDALE AND LOSS - ALL POV

Yumi keeps her eyes closed, but as time passes, she senses no movement. Slowly, she opens her eyes to find Landale still standing there, his sword held high, tears streaming down his face, and an expression of profound despair etched onto his features. Her heart aches with sympathy; it's clear that he can't bring himself to go through with whatever he had planned.

Suddenly, a powerful blast propels Landale far away from Yumi and Azzle. Yumi's gaze drops to the ground, and she notices the defensive runes in the camp glowing. In fact, the entire camp seems to come alive with beautiful light blue runes, casting a serene aura all around.

Yumi smiles with relief and takes a deep breath. She senses him and looks to the side. There he stands, sword in hand – Aki has arrived.

Landale struggles to his feet, coughing from the impact of the blast. Aki approaches Yumi and Azzle, kneeling in front of them to check for any signs of injuries.

"Are you okay?" Aki asks, gently touching Yumi's face and placing a reassuring hand on Azzle's shoulder.

"Yeah, we're fine," Yumi says, managing a small smile. "He used 'Hold Person' on us, though."

"I can see that," Aki replies. "Don't worry; it'll wear off. Soon."

"AKI!" Landale screams, grimacing. The blast had surprised him, causing more damage than he had intended. Now back on his feet, using the dark ritual sword for support, he glares at Aki with intensity.

Aki turns to look at him and slowly gets up.

"Give it up, Landale," Aki says calmly. "I know everything."

"You know nothing..." Landale retorts, convinced that Aki's investigation into the ruined temple has no bearing on him.

"I know this – the only reason you're still alive is because I witnessed that you couldn't bring yourself to kill my companions," Aki says grimly. He takes a deep breath and adds, "Landale, you're a mole, sent here by the warrior king, correct?"

Landale remains silent, biting his lip. After a moment, he shakes his head, "No, I am not-"

"Of course you are," Aki interjects. "You were sent to the Academy, already trained in mystical arts, which gave you an advantage over other students. You were meant to graduate with high honors and infiltrate the capital's army."

Landale grits his teeth as he hears Aki's accusation. A moment later, he laughs, "How can you even dream of such a... oh." He trails off as realization dawns on him. He gazes at Aki with wide eyes, "You entered my mind when I was dreaming. You were the extra presence."

Aki nods. "Yes, that night when I covered you with a blanket, I heard you speaking feverishly. I wanted to wake you, but... Since you had used Detect Thoughts on all of us, I thought I'd pay you back the favor. I entered your dream and took on the form of one of the crimson-robed figures, but you immediately sensed something was amiss. Still, the speed in which you noticed my presence there, told me the dream wasn't a rare one for you to have."

"Yes," Landale replies, after contemplating for a moment, "But you found nothing there," his tone a bit shaky as he clings to the hope that his secrets remain hidden.

"No, but I saw the sigils and symbols," Aki replies. "By that point, I had a hunch about your true identity, but I needed concrete proof."

"The Great Joy inadvertently gave me the clue I needed," Aki continues. "'Placed by the warrior king,' he said. Replaced the egg with you and it all fit. Naturally, I wanted to verify, so I returned to the temple. At the altar where the egg was laid, I found it – the symbol of the warrior king, the same symbol on the temple door and your mother's crown."

"Crown!? What crow- wait! You couldn't have checked!" Landale accuses in despair. "It's a long journey! You can't possibly have made it here so quickly!"

Aki shrugs and raises his hands, which glow with mystical energy. "I casted Sleep on you. Both you and Azzle have been asleep for two days."

Landale finally realizes the source of his headache and that of the goblin's. They were right; their heads ached because they had overslept. At a loss for words, his gaze shifts wildly, and he bites his lip, desperately trying to find a way out.

Seeing his distress, Aki gazes at Landale. "Landale... I'll say this again. The only reason you're still alive is that you saved Azzle's life, and I witnessed that you couldn't bring yourself to kill them."

Aki bites his lip, gazing at Landale with sympathy. "You're not evil, Landale, just unfortunate with the cards life dealt you."

Landale gazes at Aki, his expression conveying a **** plea, as if he wants Aki to help him. "So what happens now?"

"You leave," Aki replies simply. "Never return to the capital. You can even go back to the southern kingdom; I don't care. But I cannot allow you to infiltrate the army. I - No... WE need the army for the wars ahead."

Landale slumps, and for a moment, Aki thinks he's going to accept the proposition. But then Landale looks up, an idea dawning on him, and he grins at Aki, "That's not happening, Aki. Not without a fight. I've worked too hard for too long. I have upgrades now, and I'll show you..."

He starts moving toward Aki, but Aki raises his hand. Landale freezes, anticipating an offensive spell, but no such spell emerges from Aki's raised hand; he's merely signaling for him to halt. "But before you leave, you must hand over the sword... along with the amulet."

Upon hearing about the amulet, Landale's throat tightens, and he gazes at Aki uncertainly.

Aki shrugs, "When I planned against the goblin boss, I made a grave mistake. I didn't understand the properties of the amulet then. It was only later that Azzle told me it provided resistances. If you had thrown the genuine amulet against the goblin boss, the 'Command' spell Yumi used wouldn't have worked."

Landale tilts his head, winces, and says, "It doesn't matter that you know now. I'm a higher-level wizard with the amulet and the dark ritual sword. You stand no chance."

Aki shakes his head, "No, Landale, you don't stand a chance. By now, you should know me. I don't engage in conversation unless I've already secured victory. I specialize in defense. This camp, this fucking whole camp... is MY DOMAIN!" He raises his hand, and the light blue runes surrounding them shift to a foreboding blood-red – the entire camp illuminated with an ominous hue, a warning to anyone who dares to challenge him.

"Last chance, Landale."

Landale grits his teeth; he knows he must confront Aki, but doubts swirl in his mind. What about Yumi? And everything he's worked for? A decade of effort gone in an instant. His lips quiver as he realizes that if only he hadn't followed Yumi and Aki to seek personal vengeance, he might have fulfilled his mission. But it's too late now. Despair tightens its grip on his heart, and he feels himself descending into an abyss from which there is no return.

In response to all this, Landale gazes up at the sky, his eyes glazed as he surrenders all hope. He wipes the drying tears from his cheeks and takes a deep breath. "At the very least, a good ****, huh, mother?"

With a heavy heart, he slowly retrieves the amulet from his pocket, places it around his neck, and brandishes the dark ritual sword. The two dark items gleam with a purple hue, a striking contrast to the blood-red runes surrounding them. He locks eyes with Aki, his expression resolute. "Let's begin, Aki. Our destined duel. The renowned Aki versus THE MIGHTY LANDALE!"

True to his word, Aki effortlessly bests Landale; it's an utterly one-sided contest. Azzle, who had witnessed the defensive runes' power during their encounter with the goblin ambush squad, knows just how lopsided it is. Aki had permitted the goblin ambush squad inside their camp before annihilating them completely, leaving no room for a counterattack.

Every time Landale attempts to cast a spell, a defensive rune activates, promptly nullifying or weakening his efforts.

Landale can't even find stable ground to stand on. Every step he takes seems to trigger a trap - webs, treacherous surfaces, and unexpected explosions. In stark contrast, Aki moves with grace across the battlefield, shifting effortlessly from one spot to another. Aki's spells require minimal incantation, and by the time Landale prepares his spells, Aki has already unleashed his counterattacks.

However, Landale, bolstered by his amulet, remains unyielding. Many of the attacks should have incapacitated him, but he resolutely shakes them off.

Aki finds himself developing a newfound respect for Landale. Yes, the amulet provides a substantial advantage, but Landale is now covered in bruises, bleeding from multiple wounds, yet he soldiers on, his eyes ablaze with unwavering determination.

"With you gone," Landale mutters frantically, blood dripping from his mouth, "Everything will be okay."

The so-called "battle" rages on, but as Landale grows progressively weaker, Azzle realizes he can move again. He shifts his gaze to Yumi, who observes the conflict with a somber expression.

"Yumi! I can move," Azzle whispers to her as he cautiously approaches. "What should I do?"

"Nothing," Yumi replies softly. "The battle is nearly over. Just watch with me."

Azzle looks at her, puzzled, and then it dawns on him that Yumi had regained her mobility long before he did. She had chosen not to assist Aki. He regards her with indignant curiosity.

As if sensing his thoughts, Yumi whispers, "That dream Landale had... Aki told me about it before he left for the ruins. How jubilant Landale appeared when he saw his mother. Aki suspects that woman wasn't truly his mother. If Aki's right, and it seems probable, Landale was sent here as a young child, alone and possibly manipulated to do so. Can you fathom the pain he's endured? A boy less than ten, sent by the only person who cared for him to a place where he would be surrounded by enemies for his entire life... We felt bad for him, Aki and I."

Azzle is at a loss for words, so he remains silent.

Yumi nods and shifts into a fetal sitting position, her arms resting on her knees. "Don't worry, Azzle. Aki knows this too. Just like Landale, he was left alone as a young child. Aki is granting Landale... no... The Mighty Landale a proper farewell."

Another explosion catapults Landale high into the air, his curses echoing as he plummets to the ground. He winces upon hearing a sickening bone crack upon impact.

Aki stands over him, sword at the ready. "It's over, Landale."

Landale spits blood onto the ground and slowly, unsteadily rises to his feet, one leg wracked with excruciating pain, but he doesn't utter a word. Aki gazes at his adversary. One of Landale's eyes is swollen shut, substantial portions of his hair are charred and smoldering, his armor lies in tatters, and a grotesque gash on his arm reveals a protruding bone.

Yet through all of this, Landale fixes his unwavering gaze upon Aki, devoid of fear or surrender; this is his final stand.

"With you gone, everything will be okay." he whispers once more, the only thing inside his mind. Relying solely on the strength of his one unharmed leg, he lunges at Aki.

Aki gracefully sidesteps Landale, and a gut-wrenching noise escapes Landale's lips as Aki's sword cuts deeply in to his chest. With a pained gasp, Landale's sword slips from his grasp, clattering to the ground as he collapses against Aki.

Aki feels the weight of Landale's weakening form and instinctively supports him, wrapping his arms around the wounded man. Landale's ragged breaths sound like a **** symphony, each inhalation and exhalation a struggle for life.

Gently laying Landale on the ground, Aki contemplates for a moment. Then, he takes the amulet from Landale's neck, feeling its power enhance his magic for healing purposes. With Landale now resting on the ground, Aki's hands begin to radiate a soft, soothing glow as he prepares to mend the wounds.

He shifts his gaze towards Yumi. "Come help heal him," he commands.

"What!?" Azzle questions, bewildered. But Yumi promptly rises and rushes toward Aki and Landale, with Azzle following closely behind.

"Boss, why? Why would we do this for him?" Azzle inquires as Yumi kneels down and uses her Lay on Hands to assist in Landale's recovery.

"An eye for an eye. He saved your life," Aki explains simply. When Landale's mortal wounds are sufficiently healed, Aki raises his hand to Landale's face and mutters, "Sleep."

"That's enough. He'll awaken in about two days. " Aki states, removing the amulet and placing it in his satchel. He stands up and shifts his gaze back to the path. Contemplating for a moment, he reaches a decision, "Let's head to the capital. There is nothing for us here anymore."

With one last pitying look at Landale, Yumi nods, and they depart. As they walk, Azzle steals a backward glance at Landale's prone form. "What's going to happen to him? This is still a perilous part of the woods, boss."

"Who knows? He might survive, he might not. The important thing is we are even with him. And He won't be coming to the capital - not as a mole, at least. This actually might be a fate worse than **** for him, his entire life was dedicated for that single goal," Aki reflects, shaking his head sadly.

He pauses and looks back at Landale, whispering, "Farewell, the mighty Landale."
