Chapter 26 by Ai-R Ai-R

What should I do?

Surprised Expression > Vampire Fangs

I consider. I reflect. The device 'I' discovered a few subjective days ago reflects the truth of things. It bounces the holder into the world they look upon, and allows the holder to describe that world with words. Words, funny things they are. They have so many meanings, so many possibilities, and these things I find interesting. Unique. Novel, even, hee-hee hee-hee. (I have discovered "puns," as well as humor and - curiously - the feelings of embarrassment, pity, and annoyance all at once. 'I' am truly a contradictory being.)

I reflect upon this, and I consider.

The truth the device describes is not true: I am not surprised. 'I' did not have the time for surprise. Therefore: I believe this should be rectified. I do not have, and shall not have had, a 'Surprised Expression,' I believe I shall have had, hm~~ 'Vampire Fangs!'

'I' feel nothing as the device shunts 'me' into the chosen reality, and I feel my teeth lengthen and sharpen as my tongue licks up against their tips. I feel my lips as they are stretched into a broad smile. My back, as cloth recedes and exposes it to the eternal void.

I hum and run my tongue against my fangs in consideration (all entirely metaphorically of course: I do not wish to break this fragile toy I've found, as much as 'I' might have desired it scatter and vanish into the cosmic winds.)

Interesting. I feel my biology has shifted beyond merely the surface. New dietary needs are established, previous preferences shift, and even the structure of 'my' brain and soul are altered and adjusted. Similarly, 'my' skin has become significantly more reactive to the presence of the stars.

...Naturally, I do not allow such a thing to hinder me. 'I' am quite tired of suffering, after all, so I've no need to needlessly needle 'myself' with negative notes like 'consequences.' That would be cruel, yes. I do not want to be cruel; 'I' have never wanted to be cruel.

I believe I have understood this new truth, and am ready to move on. Therefore...

[AN: I was expecting a little less toothiness. I mean, in hindsight it's just like the plastic fake fangs you'd buy in a store, but somehow it still caught me off guard. On the topic of the plot itself: One of the best things about having an arbitrarily alien narrator/"protagonist" is you have to justify things a lot less internally, because it's simply unconcerned with self-justification.]

What should I do next?
