"...Fine," she finally says. "I'll at least give you a shot. At this level I couldn't get a better familiar anyway."

You're not sure if that was intended as an insult or not, but you interpret it as a compliment because you're actually the "best" at something. And that feels pretty great. Also she agreed, which feels even better.

You therefore take a moment to hop up and down and rejoice, before calming down and trying to act professional. "Thank you very much! Lead the way, boss. Or mistress or whatever you prefer."

The mage taps her chin. "I'm liking this already... But you can use my actual character name. It's Morwyn. What's yours?"

"Uh... Dark Caster?"

Morwyn cocks her head to the side. "That's actually your name?"

"Well, no. I think. I just don't have one other than that."

She shrugs. "Guess I'll make one up for you. It'll take me a while though. You wouldn't believe how long I was stuck at the naming screen when creating my character... I'm bad with names. So until then, I'll just call you Dark. Or Caster. Or Tiny. Whatever I feel like, really. You cool with that?"

You're not really cool with the last part, but you decide it's not worth arguing about. As for being given a name of your own... The idea is kinda nice, but you'd prefer to make up your own name. But again, no point discussing that right now. So you just nod. "I guess so... Morwyn?"

"Come to think of it, do keep the 'mistress' part."

"Mistress Morwyn?"

"Perfect!"

She smiles and turns around, gesturing for you to come with her. You do so, with some troubles considering the combination of the forest's terrain, your stubby legs and your flowing robe still hindering you quite a bit. But you try your hardest to press forward, because you're pretty sure that if you demonstrate yourself unable to even keep up with your new mistress, you'll be a goner. Heroes don't like being slowed down, you know that.

Welp... Didn't take you long to go from one person's minion to another's. At least this will hopefully be a more productive arrangement. There's still the itch in the back of your head telling you to kill heroes, saying that monster-XP is dirty, but you still stand zero chance against a hero. If only the game would give you some better spells when you level up, maybe you could start going for heroes instead... Yeah, this isn't your fault. You're just doing what you have to. So for now, you'll continue playing for the wrong team. Hoping there is no karma mechanic.
