Chapter 3 by zedar zedar

What is the first group you encounter?

Superheroines, come to rescue you

As you stare into the darkness, you wonder about the sounds you're hearing. At first you thought it was a brawl -- yells, impacts -- but there are sounds that don't fit. Explosions, gunfire -- that's a little **** for a brawl. On the other hand, relatively few firefights also feature hand-to-hand combat. And there are other, stranger sounds, like a recurring bzzzz, like a bug zapper only much louder, and some sort of high-pitched, penetrating sound that makes your teeth ache.

The sounds are beginning to die down. Maybe-

The material before your eyes is torn away, leaving you blinking in the first light you've seen in weeks. "Are you all right?" your rescuer asks.

You gawp at her. Wonder Woman! You've never seen a superhero this close before. "I.... You.... Where am... What happened?" you stammer.

She smiles and tosses away the twisted piece of steel she's holding -- you note to yourself that she must have torn a hole in your pod with her bare hands -- and helps you out. "Easy there," she says. "These guys were doing human experiments, trying to induce superpowers. They caused a lot of mutations in their failures, but I don't see anything wrong with you. Still, you should get checked out by a doctor soon."

You stand, unsteadily. You've been in that sensory deprivation pod for far too long, not used to standing. You see rows of isolation pods like your own, other heroes helping those of the occupants who were still alive. Next to you is Power Girl, ripping open a pod in much the same way Wonder Woman opened yours. Seeing that the inhabitant is already dead, she shakes her head sadly and moves on to the next.

"So does that mean I might have superpowers now?" you ask.

A voice from behind you says "Not likely." Turning around, you see Black Canary, who is helping some of your fellow experimental subjects stand on shaky legs. That explains the screeching sound earlier, you think. "These guys have tried this before, and not once have they been successful."

Zatanna, who is assisting her, adds "We had some of our own experts take a look at their experiments, and our experts said there are a lot of basic mistakes. These guys are just crackpots."

"You could give it a try," says Power Girl. You turn back to her. Despite yourself, you find your gaze dropping to that famous cleavage window of hers. "According to the label on your pod, they were trying to give you psychic powers of some sort. Try reading my mind."

You furrow your brow and focus on her, but nothing happens. You open your mouth to say so, but are interrupted by a cough from Wonder Woman.

"Excuse me," she says, glaring at you, "but contrary to popular belief emotions are located in the head, not the heart, so you shouldn't need to stare at her chest to read them." You feel your face turn red and begin to stammer out an apology.

"Oh, don't be so hard on him," says Power Girl. She smiles at you. "He's been trapped in that pod for weeks, with nothing at all to look at. You can't blame him for taking a gander now that he's got something nice to look at." You blink, not knowing how to respond to that. "Don't let her get to you," Power Girl tells you, making no effort to cover up her chest. In fact, she seems to be arching her back a bit to make her enormous rack look even bigger.

"Yes, the poor boy's been through an enormous shock," says Zatanna, coming up behind you and resting a hand on your shoulder. "You shouldn't be so mean to him," she adds. You can't help but think that she's standing a bit too close to you for someone you barely know.

Black Canary comes up from behind you on your other side and goes even further, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, her own breasts now pressing against your arm. "Absolutely," she agrees. She leans in close "I would never criticize you like that," she purrs in your ear. For some reason, even though the two fishnetted women are agreeing with her, Power Girl looks disgruntled at what they're saying.

Wonder Woman looks even angrier now, although to your relief that anger appears to be directed at the other superheroines more than you. "I'm... sorry," she grinds out, looking as if the words pain her. "You can look at whatever you want."

How do you react to this strange behavior?
