Mentat not only spent time practicing his powers, but studing the local power structures of the hero teams, the skills levels of different villains (Especially those with the same type of powers), which villains that he might face as well and different sciences that might amplify his natural powers.

He had developed chemicals, machines and other tools so that he could increase his power base. It would be a dangerious situation if those men and women came out of his mind alterations. Especially if they had powers that could hurt him. So he made sure that it would be hard to break his controls. And if they did, he would have a back up plan to save his butt.

Then there was his studies of the hero teams. Three major groups of heroes based in the US at this time. The Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the collection of the teams that make up the X-men. Each had their benefits and weaknesses.

The Fantastic Four had only one full time woman, Sue "The Invisible Woman" Storm-Richards. There were other women linked to the Four. Like She-hulk or the Inhumans Medusa and Crystal. They had wealth most of the time and a collection inventions that could be of use. Still, there was more men on the team than women normally.

The Avengers had more women and plenty sexy. Tigra, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, She-hulk, The Wasp and Sersi to state a few. It had some great tech minds that might help him with his type of charm. Plus it did have a millionaire on the team that could help out finacially. But it was one of the most watched teams on the planet. Any changes would be noticed.

The X-men had multiple teams full of sexy mutant women. A couple of millionarie plus rich mutants on it. Tech that was beyond human and access to mutant inventors. But it did have a lot of mutant telepaths and the same on them that might make his work harder with out back up. And some kind of psychic shielding from mental probes.

There are also a few other non-major hero teams like the Thunderbolts and Alpha Flight (The Canadian Avengers/X-men. But who would notice them?). Or he could try a villain team. Take them over and forge them into a **** that he could use.
