Stop time

His special ability was that time would stop whenever he was in danger, indirectly or directly. This ability was unknown until a childhood disaster caused the **** of several people, but he and a friend he dragged away were saved.

The friend reacted differently than he expected, treating him like a freak and telling everyone about him.

That's what eventually drew the attention of political super powers. He had already grown into a young man, and he was drafted into military service. He learned to control his ability to a point and make it not so obvious when he moved through time in a combat situation.

He hid it so well in fact that it took a few years for the proof to be put forward that he did in fact have this strange ability. That's when an attempt was made on his life with magic that **** him into a new world that was very strange to him.
