Stop struggling and try to remain calm, hoping to appear more rational
You **** yourself to still, to let your shoulders drop. The orderlies' grip loosens fractionally as you stop resisting. You draw a slow breath, straightening your spine despite their hold on your arms.
"Dr. Ashford," you say, keeping your voice level, "I understand how this appears. But I ask you to consider whether a genuinely delusional patient would be able to cite specific publications?" You ask before mentioning such publications, including a paper you did advocating for the abolition of mechanical restraints in favor of therapeutic occupation. A client-centered health intervention that uses daily activities such as occupations to help individuals regain, develop, or maintain skills needed for daily living.
Dr. Ashford's expression shifts slightly when hearing this. Her eyes flicker as if something you said had caught her interest. Before you can tell what it was, Matron Oakwood interjects. "The patient has clearly read widely," the Matron notes your knowledge on metal topics.
Dr. Ashford tilts her head. "All things that a determined imposter might learn," states the doctor, disregarding all of your medical facts.
"Then examine my credentials," you say, pointing towards your carpetbag. "The letter of appointment bears the Board's seal, and my medical degree has the signatures of the examining board. These things are not easily forged."
"Forgeries are more common than you might think," Dr. Ashford replies smoothly, but she turns to Agnes. "The bag. Bring it here." Demands, Dr. Ashford, as she looks to clear the matter up.
Your options
Dr. Ashford finds your letter with the seal intact but still wants to verify with the board.
Dr. Ashford checks the bag but finds no letter or credentials inside.
Dr. Ashford finds both your letter and credentials but set's them a blaze using gaslit.
Which option will you choose?

Mistaken identity at the Ashford Institute
A first person story
You are Dr. Abigail Winters, the newly appointed director of the Ashford Institute. Having arrived a day early, you decide to head straight for the institute. Unfortunately for you, the staff of the institute has been told to expect the arrival of a female patient matching your height and age. When you arrive at the institute, you are expecting to be greeted by your fellow professionals. Instead, you find yourself being mistaken for a patient by the staff. Can you convince them that there's been a mistake? Or will you end up undergoing treatment at the very institute you were appointed to run?
