Socratic Dialogue
Teacher: "What is a Socratic dialogue?"
Student: "I don't know."
Teacher: "Okay, how about we break it down? What do you think the word 'dialogue' means?"
Student: "I think dialogue is a conversation between two or more people."
Teacher: "So, what makes a Socratic dialogue different from just any conversation?"
Student: "I don't know."
Teacher: "What kind of questions might a teacher ask a student to help them learn something new?"
Student: "A teacher would ask questions that get a student to think critically and have a deeper understanding instead of questions that are limiting."
Teacher: "Now that you understand, what is a Socratic dialogue?"
Student: "Socratic dialogue is a conversation between a 'teacher' and 'student(s)'. The teacher asks open-ended questions that encourage critical thinking. The goal is for the student to arrive at their own understanding through reasoning and reflection through the guidance of the teacher's questions."
