Chapter 26 by Spioch Spioch

Wait or run?

Small lie, more lies, and getting caught in a lie [Nick's PoV]

While her energy may have been hard to follow for some, I actually enjoyed it - even if it made me a bit nervous. I kept pace and nodded and tried to speak up before she moved to the next place. While I couldn't get a word in I was still rather happy with the conversation.

"Well, I really don't know when they'll be back. They may have grabbed lunch while out." I said when she finally let her voice hang for two full seconds.

"Wow. You really have a great garden!" she yells as she moves towards the patio. "You have the hot-tub too! and is that a sauna? Maybe you should invite us instead!" She shouts excitedly.

I started to panic a bit. I let her in, but she does not seem to know any boundaries, and now I am terrified she'll start opening doors. How can I stop her?

"Oh, well. Who knows. If our parents hit it off you could come over whenever you want, really. I would just need a heads up is all. This place looks impressive, but it can get dirty fast." Sure. I was lying a little bit, but I didn't want to tell her I would need time to make sure my pets weren't moving around freely.

"Your fence said you have dogs? are they around? can you show me?" her eyes were darting around the living room.

Once she finished the inspection and stood in front of me looking slightly up straight at my eyes - hers were green like the meadow. I got lost in her eyes for a moment.

"Oh, umm well we got that sign prematurely." Yeah, yeah I can get away with this... "We're gonna get some dogs once we're done unpacking."

"Oh?" She seemed disappointed. "Well. Ok. Please let your parents know - tomorrow 6 PM, small red house at the end of the street!" with that she start marching towards the door.

Just then - just when you thought you could get away with it all. She noticed the bowls. The dog bowls on the floor that still had some traces of what would most probably be the the dog food.

"Huh? and what is this?" she asked pointing at the bowls. This time she didn't follow that question with eight others, so you knew it was serious.

Uh. Oh. Ups. Thumb?

Ups!
