Sleeping Sarah

You still had plenty of time before you needed to head to school but if you wanted to get there early and talk with Rebecca, then you would have to leave pretty soon. Unfortunately, your twin sister would have other ideas on the matter, always waking up late thanks to the fact that she got picked up by her friends.

The silver lining was that she didn’t actually spend too much time in the bathroom, just that it always seemed like she had needed to get ready at the same time as you did. Your new sleep schedule had seemed to fix that now that you were an early riser but you now had the task of waking her up.

Last time she was in your room when you had the opportunity to use more ‘interesting’ methods to rouse her from her sleep but with both Mom and Lucy already awake and nearby, using the same method as last time didn’t seem to be the best idea for this situation. You could also easily stomp over to her room and storm inside, being as loud as possible to get her up but Sarah would never let that go if you did that. Not something you could afford to do if you wanted to have a more relaxed conversation with her first.

With a heavy sigh, you bit the bullet and headed out your room and towards her door, giving it a light knock and then another as you tried again a little louder.

No response, as you expected.

You entered the room slowly and closed the door behind you, finding Sarah’s room warmer than outside in the hallway. Your eyes took a moment to adjust to the darkened space and when they did, you managed to see Sarah in her bed, the covers looking like they were tightly wrapped around her.

You found it strange that she still had her covers on compared to when she had slept in your room, throwing them off whenever she got too warm. You chalked it up to her being more comfortable in her own room and tried to move closer for a better look.

Slowly, you took cautious steps towards her, seeing her more clearly as you stayed in the darkness of the room for longer. She lay on her back and looked peaceful in her sleep, a shame that you now had to disturb that sleep to wake her up.

Carefully, you slowly sat down on the bed at the side of her and let your eyes fully adjust to low light level, letting you have some time to prepare yourself in the off chance that she was in a bad mood. You noticed however that something seemed off when you were waiting there, a small difference that took you a moment to figure out.

You wouldn’t have admitted this if somebody asked but you remembered what Sarah had sounded like when she slept, a weird memory to keep hold of but it was in your KDK improved brain whether you liked it or not. The slow deep breathing that was in your memory was not what you were hearing now. Instead, it sounded like Sarah was holding her breath for a while and then a few short ones came afterwards, almost as if she was trying to keep quiet and see what you would do.

Once you noticed that, a few more details clicked into place. Your earlier thoughts about her covers being wrapped around her and how your earlier knocking hadn’t seemed to have even disturbed her in the slightest, made you realise she wasn’t even asleep.

Any other time you would have seen how far you could push it before she was **** to admit she was awake but given your lack of time, you settled for some light teasing.

“You should probably stop pretending you know, or are you just gonna lie there?” you questioned, still not getting a reaction out of her.

Her eyes were fully closed and after waving your hand in front of her face, you slightly stroked her hair to get a reaction. She flinched at the contact as she didn’t seem to expect it and confirmed in your mind that she was in fact conscious.

With an exaggerated sigh, you moved your hand from her hair and pinched her nose, waiting until she had taken a longer breath to do so. The effect was almost instantaneous as Sarah bolted upright, flailing her arms and swatting your hand away from her before glaring in your direction.

“What the hell! Why’d you do that?” she asked angrily, staring you down now that you were both sat up next to each other.

“Well you didn’t answer my question. How long have you been awake?” you replied, trying to turn the conversation back to her.

“T-that doesn’t matter, what do you want anyway?” Sarah asked back, refusing to give an answer.

Sarah still seemed to be annoyed with your methods but she had at least calmed down after her initial shock, giving you the chance to actually discuss the reason you had come to see her in the first place.

“Look from my point of view, I came in here to discuss something important and you were pretending to be asleep instead of answering me. I checked multiple times that you were actually awake and you still ignored me. So if you…anyway that's not why I’m here” you started to say, realising you were about to start ranting before you managed to stop yourself.

“...How are you getting to school this morning?” you asked, getting a confused look from Sarah in return.

“The same as usual, getting a lift with… Jess…” Sarah replied, her sentence trailing off and her expression turning sour.

“Look I don’t know what happened yesterday before me and Emma saw you but I thought to check in. I’m still not gonna ask for details but if you wanna walk to school with me instead then the option is there and you’ve still got time to get up and ready before we would need to leave” you offered, letting Sarah mull over the choices.

“Are you meeting up with Emma?” Sarah queried, wondering if your girlfriend would be joining the two of you.

“We haven’t made plans no. I assume Grace is giving her a lift” you answered honestly, not knowing if Emma’s presence would sway Sarah’s decision one way or another.

“I’ll walk with you if that’s okay?” Sarah asked hesitantly, still wanting to go with you even without Emma being involved.

“Sure. It’s the reason I came in here so I’ve got no issues” you responded with a smile letting Sarah know you were happy for her to tag along.

“Cool, I need to make a call before getting ready but I’ll meet you downstairs. Unless you want to stay and watch?” she teased, almost making you stay just to see how she would react.

“Maybe next time. Just don’t take too long or we're gonna be late” you replied, getting up from her bed and heading to the door.

You went out of her room and quickly down the hallway, taking a quick detour to pick up your bag from your room before heading towards the stairs. You heard the sounds of Sarah walking around as you passed her room again but the thought of actually having time to eat breakfast without being in a rush was too tempting to wait around for as you headed to the kitchen to make something for yourself.
