Chapter 100 by landmaster1234
Does anything happen before bed?
She receives Ginny's letter
As Hermione prepared to lay down in bed, she heard a tapping at the window. She looked to see that Pig, Ron's tiny owl, was at the window. She moved as quick as she could through her exhaustion to open the window take the letter. Pig zoomed around the room, dropping the letter onto Hermione's head before perching on the alarm clock.
Hermione opened it and began to read.
H,
I don't know why you'd want old Gryffindor robes. I know you have enough money to get some of your own and could order more. If this has something to do with what the Slytherins are up to, it might be better to talk in person.
Please send a response back with Pig if we can meet tomorrow night. Floo Powder wouldn't be smart, mum and dad might come down at any moment to see my head in the fireplace. Just let me know a time and place. I'll find an excuse to meet you there.
-Ginny
Hermione groaned. It was just her luck that in her haste to ask Ginny for robes, she'd leave so many questions Ginny might want answers to... She should have figured her friend would jump to help her more, but would demand more information to know how to do so.
She read the letter again. H? Ginny must be writing in code to make sure nobody in the house would recognize that she was writing to Hermione instead of Hagrid, who the letter was supposedly from. A bit of an obvious cipher, but at least it would work.
Hermione took a moment to think as Pig watched her, expectantly. Ginny may have an apparition license, but she didn't want to meet her anywhere that might be public, given that all she had to wear to this meeting would be socks and shoes, and that was if she even wanted to risk the Slytherins knowing she was putting on any form of cover. In fact, she wasn't sure if she wanted Ginny to see her naked at all. She was already being humiliated by people she considered to be her enemies. If her friends saw her in this position, she worried if they'd think less of her, or worse, fight and break all sorts of rules and laws to avenge her.
But this was the only way Hermione could hope to have any cover at the end of this ordeal. Hermione took up a quill and scribbled a response, doing her best to hide her own handwriting but make it clear it was her, just in case anyone would read over Ginny's shoulder.
Ginny,
I will meet you at the paddock your family plays quidditch in, the one hidden by all the trees, tomorrow night, April 6, at 11.
-H
Hermione briefly thought about asking her to bring the robes then, but she knew that if the Slytherins figured out she had any more clothes that could cover herself, they'd immediately get to work on making her lose those, too.
She sealed the letter and addressed it to Ginny, hoping that nobody else in the family would read it. She had to admit, it would sound suspicious to anyone who read it, but she had to be somewhat secretive for the sake of her dignity.
She gave the owl to Pig. "Now, take this straight to Ginny. Not to Ron, not to anyone else, just Ginny. Understand?" Hermione was apprehensive since Pig was usually overexcited when it came to performing his job.
Pig did what appeared to be his best attempt at a salute with his wing before taking off through the open window.
Hermione watched him fly into the distance until she couldn't even see his speck in the moonlight before returning to her bed.
The last thought before she fell asleep was that she'd better be on time for all the meals tomorrow, or she might miss her meeting...
Does anything ELSE happen tonight?
