The guy says, “You’re too late.” To me in a sad voice. I at least recognize he is saying it with Zayden’s voice, so I guess I finally found my man.

“What do you mean, too late?” I ask. “Yeah, I took a while. I got my leg stuck in a trap. It was so frustrating trying to get myself out of there. But I’m here now.”

The moon slowly breaks through the clouds and illuminates us, allowing me to see Zayden clearly.

He looks up at me, but still had that sad expression on his face. Then he lowers his head and says, “Another girl got here first.”

Another girl? Oh my god. He didn’t …

“What?” I ask, not wanting to believe my beloved Zayden has actually had sex with another woman.

“It was so dark. I couldn’t see who she was. She pretended to be you.” Zayden tries to explain himself.

I can’t believe what I’m hearing. I really did take too long to get here it seems. Now another woman has had her way with my man and the rules forbid me from being with him tonight.

“Who was it?” I ask, curious to know which bitch screwed me oved.

Zayden hands me a necklace. It’s made of black stones so he has indeed already been taken by another woman. I read the letters on the necklace and discover it was Mearna.

“Mearna?” I ask dumbfounded. “You fucked waxface?”

“I thought it was you.” Zayden repeats.

Several thoughts start going through my head and I speak the one that worries me the most.

“You didn’t leave your seed inside her, did you?”

Zayden answers by lowering his face and starts to rub some tears from his eyes. That tells me enough. That little Mearna actually went and stole my seed. My anger become to much to control and I yell, “That bitch!” while also stomping my right foot on the ground.

“I’m sorry, Kaileigh.” Zayden says, asking for forgiveness again. “I’m so sorry. If I knew, I would have kept away from her.”

I kneel down to Zayden and place my hand on his back. “It’s alright, Zayden. I don’t blame you. I know you wouldn’t do this. It’s all Mearna’s fault.”

“B-but … what if she gets p-pregnant.” Zayden murmurs.

Not gona lie, I am honestly worried about that myself. Mearna has a reputation of trying to get herself knocked up during Samhain. But on the other hand, she hasn’t been very successful in it either.

“You shouldn’t worry too much about that.” I tell him. “Mearna has tried to get herself fertilized like, every Samhain, and she has never succeeded. I wouldn’t be surprised if she is barren. Now, how about we go back home, get some rest, and we talk about this again tomorrow.”

While I do hope that Mearna is not going to end up with Zayden’s child, I should still remember that the ancestors are going to give Zayden back luck if he doesn’t keep Mearna’s necklace. So I give it back to him. After that, Zayden and I start walking back to the village. I even choose to use the nearby bridge the guys can use so I can stay with him. It would be best for me to walk him home. I guess that means no Samhain for me this year.
