It didn't take long for Melody to start taking sips from her water. I pretended to be occupied on my phone, sitting at the kitchen table where I could get a full view of her without being too suspicious.
Several minutes passed by, and Melody made absolutely no change. I began nervously checking my phone every minute. No changing in breathing, her face was the same color, nothing remotely to suggest that Melody had fallen head over heels for me.
I couldn't take it any longer, knowing Monica could be home at any time and I'd miss my window of opportunity. I had to make some kind of effort.
Getting up from my seat, I walked over and sat on the recliner next to the couch Melody was sitting on. I didn't want to sit too close, she react and retreat to Monica's room.
"Sooo," I start to say, as sweetly as I can muster. "What did you and Monica have planned for a girl's night?"
Melody never looked up from her phone, but did eventually reply, "Get a pizza, watch a movie. Alone." She added bitterly at the end. Still there was absolutely nothing different than I could see.
"Ah, gotcha." I replied. "Well, I'm sure she'll be back soon."
"Uhuh," she said. I guessed the time for words was over.
"Well, can I get you anything to drink or a snack?"
Finally, Melody put her phone down. "I can get it myself." She said, looking at me for the second time all night. "If Monica comes back, tell her I'm in her room."
Well shit. Seems like I blew it, as Melody gathered her things and went back to Monica's room. Seconds later, the door shut. I put my hands in my head. Well, I guessed it was too good to be true. I'd better call Violet and let her know the experiment was a failure. Of course, I could always try to raise the stakes a bit, maybe surprise Melody with something nobody could resist?
