She's Got the Resume for It
One week later, Douglas was working at his desk when Faith came in. Douglas was surprised to see her. There hadn't been a peep for six weeks. She sat down, demurely dressed, her hands folded on her lap.
"So," she started. She paused, eyes welling up with tears and she took out something from her purse instead. It was a positive pregnancy test. Douglas looked at her, eyebrows raised.
"I'm pregnant," she said simply.
"You weren't on protection?"
"It was my first time, Mister Lancaster!" she cried, and the tears started.
"I'm sorry. What are you going to do?"
"I can't get an abortion, my daddy would kill me. So ... it kills me what we did, but I've gotta know, are you going to do right by me?"
"Of course I will," Douglas said sympathetically, wrapping his arms around her. She cried into his shoulder for some time.
"Does that mean we're getting into a big house?" Faith asked hopefully.
"Ummm, not quite. The divorce is hard, my ex-wife is pissed. But we'll work something out together, okay?" he said, trying to reassure her. She nodded shakily.
Douglas smiled as she left. Elizabeth would absolutely be livid. This would wrap the divorce up promptly, and seal Antoine's ascension.
