Chapter 85

See what she wants
Walking over, Ethan notices Layla is dressed down more than he’s used to seeing her. Her hair is pulled back into a high ponytail, stray locks hanging here and there. She’s also wearing a t-shirt that looks like it’s meant for a large man, and she would be swimming in it if it wasn't for her breasts partially filling it out. On her bottoms, she’s wearing a loose pair of sweatpants{if Layla’s Secret =true}, loose enough, Ethan notes, to hide something{endif}.
But even dressed down, she’s still quite the feast for the eyes.
“Morning, eh, neighbor.” The title feels odd in Ethan’s mouth.
“Ethan,” Layla steps down off her porch, her feet bare, bringing her close to eye level. “I am so lucky I caught you! I hate to ask this, but would you be able to help me with something?”
{if Layla’s Secret =true}For a moment, Ethan assumes the worst, but shakes it off and focuses up.{endif}“Uh, yeah, of course. What do you need?”
“Ah, thank you! Um, well, I was doing some cleaning this morning, and I might have gotten a little liberal trying to move a couch…”
“Uh-huh,” Ethan cocks an eyebrow.
“I tried to move it from one room to the other and…” Layla’s mouth turns into a wincing frown.
“Too heavy for you?” Ethan sighs. Playing the role of ‘big strong neighbor man’ was not something hes ever imagined himself doing.
“Oh. No. I got it stuck in the door.”
“Huh?”
Layla nervously laughs, and offers a little shrug. “Why don’t you come see…”
Layla leads the way inside of her home, Ethan casually taking a look around. The home is very well kept,{if Peeped =true} something he noted a few days before under shady circumstances,{endif} wondering how she finds the time to clean. Thinking about it, Ethan doesn't know what Layla does for work. He’s almost tempted to ask, but before he can Layla presents him with the problem.
A couch is wedged into a door frame, the angle painful to look at. It almost looks like it’s standing on one corner, with the arms and back of the couch catching in places. Examining the sight, Ethan can tell it’s pretty stuck.
“Thoughts?” Layla asks, looking ashamed of herself.
“Uh,” Ethan had moved a few times, and helped most other people around two-score. He’d maneuvered awkward furniture through doors before. But at this point, triage was necessary. “Is there another way into the room?”
“The window is open,” Layla thinks, “I almost always open them when cleaning in nice weather.”
“Hm,” Ethan looks Layla up and down. She doesn't seem the type to climb through a window. “I’m going to have to climb through the other side and…” Ethan tilts his head. “You want it in the room or out?”
“Out?” Layla looks hopeful, but unsure.
“I’ll push. I might need you to pull… But be careful, because when this pops out it’s going to really pop out.”
“Okay. I will!”
Going back outside, Ethan heads around the back of the house, finding the window. Hoisting himself up, he’s grateful Layla jammed it in the ground floor and not the second story, having a hard enough time getting in this one. Landing in the room, Ethan reexamines the couch.
It’s fucking stuck.
Sighing, Ethan grabs onto the jammed piece of furniture. “You ready?” Ethan calls over to Layla, hoping he doesn't shove the couch into her.
“Ready!” She answers.
“Okay. On go, okay? 3. 2. 1…”
