Sarah makes the first misstep

Sarah was wiping her tears and getting dressed. She went into the kitchen and James stood to hug her. She was upset and knew her mother was right behind her so she blocked him and went to the sink. James saw Barbra right behind Sarah and got the message. He went over to the sink and said "I wash, you rinse?" Sarah nodded because she was afraid talking would make her start to cry again. She still had a couple sniffles here and there. Barbra wanted to tell Sarah she would be washing since it was her chore, but decided to let James help her. It was a nice gesture and more than she expected from this good-for-nothing who had kissed both of her daughters.

The couple finished up the dishes and Barbra heard them turn off the sink and went to the kitchen to address Sarah "I hope you learned you lesson young lady." Sarah nodded and Barbra turned to James "Thank you for helping Sarah with her chores. Sarah should tell you the rules of the house so perhaps you can help remind her so she doesn't need a sore bottom to activate her memory." James wasn't sure how to respond to that and said "yes ma'am." Barbra then told James "I think it is time for you to go home. Sarah needs to do her homework and go to bed." James nodded and looked at Sarah sympathetically and hugged her goodnight. Sarah returned the hug, and said goodnight. Sarah just wanted to forget this ever happened. James left and that concluded the evening.
