Chapter 4 by jgail4 jgail4

What's next?

Robot Attack

It was a quiet day for Kara. Flying around in circles on patrol, she'd seen nothing out of the ordinary all day. It seemed like crime had disappeared off the face of the Earth just to bore her. That changed when her communicator went off. She stopped flying to focus on it. There wasn't too much information on it, just a location and something about robots. Kara squealed internally, she'd been waiting for a chance to really test herself and her powers against something that could really take damage and robots were exactly what she been waiting for. She took off flying towards Metropolis, the source of the distress call and hoped that Kal wouldn't take out all the robots by the time she got there.

It only took her a few minutes flying at superspeed before the high rises of Metropolis came into view. Stopping above the city, Kara used her x-ray vision and supersight to see her cousin fighting a small army of robots right in one of the busiest areas of the city. She could see him trying to fight off robots and protect civilians at the same time, he was doing well but even he couldn't be everywhere at once.

"This looks like a job for Supergirl." Kara said to herself with a confidant smirk before flying down to the battle. She landed on one of the robots with a crash, sending bits and pieces flying in every direction and used her heat vision to melt three more. "Hey cuz, how's it going?" She asked nonchalantly.

"Can't complain." He said, turning to the civilians trying to escape. "I got them, can you hold them off?"

"No problem." She replied as Superman flew off, leaving her alone with about a dozen robots.

Well, she wanted a chance to test herself, she wasn't going to get a better chance than this. She sped towards the nearest one and put her fist through it's chest, they were a lot weaker than she expected. Either that or Kal had downplayed how strong they were on Earth. She pulled her fist out of it and threw it towards the others. She used her speed to tear apart some more and started enjoying herself more than she should have.

She flew up several feet into the air and started blowing them up with her heat vision, enjoying herself much more than she should have. In her excitement, though, she missed the robot below grab her foot and pull her back to the ground. She quickly destroyed it before another bear hugged her from behind. Kara launched herself into the air and landed on the robot, crushing it. Getting back to her feet, she finished off the remaining robots with her various powers, making a game of it. By the end she had gotten carried away and meshed all the robots together just to uppercut them and send robot pieces flying everywhere, letting her bask in a metal shower.

"Having fun?" Kal asked. She hadn't even noticed him flying back beside her.

"Just a little" Kara replied. Noticing his disapproving look, she recoiled and got defensive. "Come on, you're telling me you never enjoy yourself even a little?"

"There's a time and place for that sort of thing and it's not when innocent people are in danger." He lectured. Kara rolled her eyes. This wasn't the first time she'd gotten this speech from Kal, he seemed especially proud of it.

"I got all the robots didn't I?"

"Yes but..." he motioned to all the robot parts lying around and the various things they damaged, "...there are smarter and more careful ways to go about it. This is why I said you weren't ready for the field."

"Then why did you send out a distress signal if you've got everything under control?"

Kal paused. "What are you talking about?"

Kara grabbed her communicator and showed Kal the blinking light over Metropolis. "I came here to help you after you asked for help, sorry it wasn't someone you liked." She said bitterly.

"I didn't send a distress signal."

Now it was Kara's turn to pause. "If it wasn't you, who was it?"

Her question was answered when a portal opened up behind her.

Who is it?
