(Rita’s POV)

I still can’t calm down, I look down at my phone as I pace around my room in excitement. I’M SO HAPPY!
I can’t stop smiling, I have John’s number! After all this time! Coming to the library all the time really paid off! I even had a full conversation with him and he likes the same kind of books I do.
I blush as I think back to the conversation, not only do I have his number, but he said we were going to talk when he finished reading the book.
I just hope I’ll be less of a mess than I was today, especially when I left after he told me how charming he thought I was.

I feel my cheeks get warm as I continue my thought. Maybe I have a chance, I thought I didn’t at first, he’s handsome so he should already have a girlfriend, but his compliment was basically a confession right?

Okay Rita, maybe you’re going to fast, let’s avoid misunderstandings. I need to check if he’s single first. He isn’t in a relationship on his socials, but let’s go through his photos just in case.
He doesn’t put many pictures online, so it takes only a few minutes to go through every one. The only woman that appears, is his mother, and the photo is 5 years old anyway.
I pause as my heartrate calms down. What am I doing? I have exams soon and I’m stalking my crush instead of studying.

I don’t really remember when my crush actually started, I’ve been going to the library a lot, trying to drop hints I was interested, but he might be a little dense. So I decided to finally provoke the conversation a few days ago by getting a library card, I’m lucky his co-worker is lazy, I thought I wouldn’t be able to talk to him at first.

Now that I think about it, the girl he works with is dangerous. I know her type, they always look bored and uninterested, but as soon as they’ll jump on any occasion to get laid. Especially when they could get someone as great as John.

I was going to start fantasizing again but I’m cut in my thoughts by a notification on my phone. Did he text me?

There is a Cosplayer class? I thought I would get a warrior or a thief, but I guess that doesn’t go with the setting, I did get John’s phone number as a reward.
I don’t really mind, I did try to cosplay at a convention once, but I had a fright when I saw myself in the bathroom and changed back. I don’t have the type of body to make it work, but I accepted that years ago.

I check the app, at first I didn’t understand how good it was, but when I saw the reward for my first quest I had to check it, and now it makes me excited. My profile is pretty basic, I leveled up and I have a perk point I didn’t find how to use.

Huh, Is this questmaster my roommate? Why the hell would it care if I put on some makeup?
I make a grimace, if I want actual good rewards am I **** to finish this quest first? Or can I reroll it?
I check the app again, but there is nothing to press, I can just look at the quest mocking me.
Maybe it would please John? No he’s not superficial like that, he finds me charming.
If I have to do this, I’ll need my roommate to help me and she’s coming home late, so I’ll have to ask her tomorrow morning.

I hope this perk actually does something good then…

(John’s POV)

I’m pretty sure this quest will give bonus points, and I’m also curious since she looks like she doesn’t take care of her appearance.
Anyway, I also have to write quests for Maria and Matt, I should do that now.

First Matt, I’m honestly not sure what to ask of him. He’s been cleaning after himself for a little while now, so I’m thinking of beeing greedy. It is a good way to gain more xp so why not.

I send the quest, let’s hope he actually does it, my room isn’t that bad, but it’s been a good week since I last tidied the place.

Okay, definitely not the last one, who knows what Matt would ask me. Cleaning II is the first perk upgrade I can give a target so I guess it might be pretty strong but I’m also interested in what the Unrestricted Access perk is. I would really like to see the perks description before choosing, but this app is still very clunky.

Okay, this is already an advanced quest, I’m really playing the long game I guess.
I haven’t put down my name, because I stayed pretty vague with Maria’s quest before, and I’d like to avoid putting a giant target on my back by being the only name that appears in her quests.

Again with the two perks making the choice difficult. I guess Motherly is closer to her class anyway. But I hope the reward still makes her want to do the quest.

I’m finally done, I’m noticing this app takes more and more of my time everyday. But I also think about how much Matt changed yesterday, and I think getting more power out of the app is great.
As I’m about to go to bed I receive a text from Alex.

[Dude, do you have a guest room?] He asks.

[I don’t but if you wanted to crash, there’s a sofa in the livingroom.] I answer.

He takes some time before sending the next message.

[Not for me, but thanks, I’ll see what I can do. Talk to you later.]

I don’t know what he was talking about, but I guess he’ll explain later, right now I just want to sleep anyway.

When Maria arrives, 2 minutes before the opening, she looks a little tense. I guess, the quest isn’t what she wanted. Not long after her, mr.Newman comes to tell us about missing books. One of us (me) needs to call the clients that rented books for longer than they should have and didn’t return them yet.
I hate this kind of work but I guess we have to pressure some people if we don’t want them to “forget” to return their book forever.

I spend most of my morning calling the few late renters. Most of them don’t pick up the phone, but I still got to a lady that was apologetic and promised to return them tomorrow.
I check my phone, and the app has notifications waiting for me.

Okay, this is the worst perk ever, what the hell is this? Does that mean I don’t have any private time anymore? This is the worst! Is it because he had to enter my room without authorisation? Fuck, now I want to find if there is a way to disable perks. Maybe in the perk tree?

I’m already level 7, so adding a 3rd target was a good idea, I still level up at around the same pace as before the level cost increased.
I also have 4 perk points now, I think I really need to buy some more perks. I saw Maria’s face earlier and she might not finish her quest if I just leave her like that.
I check the perk tree again, it’s still too big, but with 4 points I feel like more choices actually appeal to me.

Additional Slot I (1 perk) : Unlock an additional target slot.

Character Editor I (1 perk) : Enables small changes to character info every 24h.

Reward Designer I (2 perks) : Allows the questmaster to create a basic reward.

Target Unawareness (2 perks) : When toggled, the target will try to accomplish the quest without noticing it.

Target Perk Tree (2 perks): Enables targets to spend points for Target perks.

Perk Toggle (1 perk) : Add a toggle to enable and disable Target’s perks

Perk Sharing I (2 perks): Enables perks of target to affect you.

I feel like buying the Target Perk Tree would be a big increase, letting my targets spend all the points they’ve been accumulating.

Perk Toggle would let me disable Matt’s last perk, I just wonder what he would think if his perk was disabled just after he obtained it, he might get angry and refuse to do other quests so that’s a risk.

An additional slot is quite obvious, but maybe I should wait a little before adding a new target again.

Reward Designer I would finally let me write the rewards I want, but I don’t think I’ll be able to give perks as rewards, I think this is what Reward Designer II is for.

Now that Maria and Matt have an advanced info tab, Character Editor I could be useful, I guess a small change would be like changing eye color, I don’t know if they would panic without the Target Unawareness perk though.

Target Unawareness would be great, but I don’t know if it only extends to quests or also to everything else I can do with the app.

I do have a lot of choice here.

Author's Note: I found this chapter hard to write, sorry but it's shorter than usual. You can suggest new perks, I'd really like to take Target Perk Tree before Matt accumulates even more points lol.
