Right to Workers Act

Because of her rash ignorance, Vanessa is completely unaware of a new controversial law, known as the Right to Workers Act. This is the town’s response to the stagnant employment market, where many businesses are unable to find qualified workers. What this act does, is it gives private businesses the ability to claim a person they see as qualified for one of their open positions. There are a few rules businesses have to abide by to benefit from this act. For starters, the jobs must be open to the public, meaning that it is possible for someone to find and apply for the position. The business must also be able to provide a reason for what makes the person a good fit for the position, and get approval before claiming the person. After that, the claimed person is now your employee and must work that position for a minimum of 1 month. After 1 month, the claimed employee must be allowed to decide whether they want to leave or stay. Until then, the claimed employee must fulfill all duties the job entails, risking punishment if they fail to comply for the duration of the month. While there are protections in place, such as employers cannot inflict permanent injury or **** on the employee (not including any changes necessary for the job) and the employee is paid just the same as a willing employee, there are many that say this is just slavery. Unfortunately for those against it, the act passed with near unanimous support.

All of this has happened, and Vanessa is none the wiser, safely in her home. Yet, she won’t stay in her home forever.
