Reminisce about past Samhains

The problem is that none of the women I catch choose to stay. On my first Samhain, I caught Mariel, the druid’s oldest daughter. But she was already in a relationship with Keithan, so I chose to respect her relationship and pulled out. She and Keithan got married the next year and then had Cerridwen and Zayden.

On my second Samhain, I caught Terin. Same story there. She was already in a relationship and they were supposed to get married next year. So, I pulled out for her as well. Then she married Bowen and had Tiona.

Then came a period where there were few unmarried women in the village. So, I ended up with a lot of women from the traveler clans, and also the druid’s youngest daughter 4 times. Aine has never come across to me as a nice woman. I at least never felt she treated me well. I simply didn’t want her to have my children. Frankly, I am happy that she’s stuck with Gavin’s oldest son now.

As for the traveler girls, they often asked me to seed them. Not a big surprise, really. The only girls who are mandated to participate are the village girls. For the traveler girls it is entirely optional. So those who participate must already be eager to stray. I was also hoping for them to have my Samhain children. My hope was that once they were pregnant, they would choose to stay in the village, together with me. I only know of 2 where my seed took root and both of them insisted that I joined their clan instead. I couldn’t do that. My whole life is in this village. This where my home, my sister and my parents are. I can’t just leave all of that as if it was nothing. So that is where the traveler girls and I parted ways.

One of those two girls is now mother to my Samhain son, whom she named Brann. Their clan comes around every 5 years. I saw him for a few months when he was 4. I didn’t quite know how to deal with a young child like that, so I kept my distance. The second time he visited was when he was 9. This time I asked his mother if maybe I could spend some time with him. But she said she preferred not. I had never been part of his life and she didn’t want to confuse him. So, I respected her wishes and kept my interactions with him to a minimum. The last time I’ve seen him was last year, when Brann was 14. I simply looked at him from a distance, like usual. Next time he visits, however, he will be 19. Old enough to participate in next year’s Samhain. If I am still able to participate in next year’s Samhain, I will tell Brann to follow me and guide him to this spot. That way, my son will have the best chance at catching a good mate. I will even help him catch her, or take the hit if it’s Mearna. Anything so he can have the hottest girl.

The other traveler girl I impregnated has my Samhain daughter, Iona. She was even harsher on me, letting me know that she had told my daughter her father had left the village. I didn’t leave, I’m still here. But she doesn’t want Iona to think I’m still around. Maybe that’s because Iona has been asking her mom questions about me. Regardless, she too has been kept out of my life. Today, Iona’s clan is here, and Iona herself is 19. She can participate in Samhain, if she wants. But I don’t know if she chose to do so. I hope for her sake that I don’t end up catching her by mistake.

You see, ever since I became 30 years old, I got sick and tired of being unmarried. I want to be with someone, I want to have children. I don’t want my life to be on hold any more. I want it to move on. So, at my 30th birthday, I made a vow to myself. That I would try my best to impregnate any girl I catch at Samhain, no matter who it is. I don’t care whether it is Riannon, Rianna, Glenna, Cerri or even Mearna or Aislinn. In fact, even Rowena has to be careful of me. Because if I were to finally impregnate one of the village girls, it will finally be the end of my bachelor’s life.
