Read the contract first

You stare down at the contract. You've been asked to sign it; the least you can do is see what exactly it is you're signing.

In the top right corner of the contract is a stylized star design with a name in fancy script that you don't even try to parse. The actual terms of the contract are written in an alphabet you don't understand, but as you stare at the words, the paper seems to rearrange the ink to form into a language you can read! And read it you do.

From the time this contract is signed, the signee below agrees to all of the following:

1. The signee will serve directly under Tholun (herein referred to as "Master"), with the job title of "Personal Assistant".
2. The signee must follow all direct orders from Master, or from any agent designated by Master. Orders from any other persons may be ignored.
3. Failure to follow orders may result in a punishment as determined by Master. Punishments shall not include anything which may result in maiming, disfiguring, permanently injuring the signee, or anything else which may reduce the signee's value.
4. The signee will not leave the headquarters building without the explicit verbal or written permission of Master.
5. The signee will be provided nutritional and rest accomodations each night, after business has concluded for the day.
6. The signee will only receive modifications upon the mutual written consent of Master and the signee. Modifications will be carried out at the proper facilities in the headquarters building only, under the supervision of Master or his designated agent.

The duration of these terms is indefinite. The terms of this contract will only expire upon the mutual written consent of Master and the signee. This contract is non-transferable and may not be modified in any way once signed.

Though the terms seem fairly vague, they don't seem that bad. At least you'll be getting free food and lodging out of it.
