Chapter 3 by Veiled Veiled

What’s your plan?

Reach out to family

You didn’t like the idea of groveling and kissing ass to try to save your job. But you also didn’t like the idea of taking out loans and having to go into debt which would take forever to pay off. That left only one clear option for you at the moment- you needed to reach out to your family. Naturally you would start with your most direct family. Your sister did fine financially, but the more intuitive person to contact was your father. He was very rich and it made more sense for a parent to support their child than to go asking a sibling for financial aid. You didn’t like the idea of asking for handouts, but a wedding was a once in a lifetime thing and you wanted Jill to get just what she wanted, even if it was extravagant. As for your mother, she and your father had divorced roughly a decade ago and then she had passed away a couple years back. Your father had become fairly distant from you and your sister after the divorce, owing to the fact that he obtained little custody and that he wished to avoid your mother. Your father, Ron, had never remarried, though you were aware that he had dated a few new women over the years. He lived around an hour away from you now, if you took the interstate.

Concerning your personal relationship with him, it was not a particularly close one. You spoke on the phone perhaps once a month or so, so there was still some contact, but your lives were largely separate now. That was why you’d selected the option of asking him for money with such ****. Still though, he was quite wealthy and had been known to give opulent gifts to you and your sister in the past. Maybe now he would consider giving you a rather large gift in the form of helping cover your wedding expenses. Or maybe he felt bad about being largely absent after the divorce, and would be willing to help you out of guilt. You supposed the worst that could happen was that he could say no. Rather than just text or call him out of the blue asking for a large sum of money, you reached out about coming to visit instead. Jill had suggested that you should try reconnecting first and spending some time together before any talk about money would happen.

Ron received your message and replied a few hours later. He said that you and your fiancé were welcome to come visit him and could even stay at his place over some weekend soon if you wanted. You went back and forth deciding on a specific day and time, and then it was settled. You and Jill would go and stay with your wealthy father for a few days, and perhaps you could convince him to help out with the wedding. As the day drew close, Jill talked to you about it. “I feel like I’ve never really spent that much time around him before, so I think this will be a good chance for me to get to know your dad better.” She said, and then she grinned. “Maybe learn some embarrassing stories about your childhood.” She teased you. You laughed. “Well, good luck with that. My dad isn’t the easiest guy to get along with.” You told her, and she smirked. “We’ll see about that.” She told you.

The visit
