Punishments for Poor Teachers

“We cannot expect students to learn if they have poor teachers. Therefore, we will hold all teachers and staff to a higher regard as well. If more than 50% of a class performs poorly on an assignment, the teacher will be punished alongside her students. This rule is why I have decided that all staff members at this school will be under the age of 40,” said Annabelle. “Teachers who turn 40 in the future will be allowed to stay, but they must continue to obey the rules we are setting into place.”

“That’s crazy,” said Alexandra Markos, a 38 year old history teacher. “Who would even be administering these punishments?”

“The punishments would be two-fold. The first punishment will be handed out by the students, as they are the ones that you failed. The second punishment will be handed out by me because your failure to educate the students reflects poorly on the school,” explained Annabelle.

“You expect us to be punished by our own students?” exclaimed Jenny Nichols, a 33 year old math teacher. “How would we ever have the respect of our students after they discipline us?”

“On the contrary, I think you would gain more respect from them by holding yourself to the same standard you hold them to,” countered Annabelle. “You’ll be able to relate more to them.”

“Additionally, given that teachers will now be given occasionally punishments, teacher dress code will also be changing.”

“You can’t expect us to wear what you want the girls to wear, right?” said Alexandra.

“Of course not. You will be allowed to wear slightly longer skirts that fully cover your butt. You will also be allowed to wear an opaque collared shirt. However, in order to make punishments easier, you will not be allowed to wear underwear.”

“Oh come on,” said Tabitha. “We’re professionals. We aren’t going to dress like that.”

“You’re right, you are professionals so you should be able to hold your tongue and follow the rules,” said Annabelle. The searing look in her eyes told everyone in the room that this wasn’t a debate. “Now that the new rules are established, let’s go over what we need to get before school starts.”

Annabelle had successfully made it through the meeting, but making it through the first day of classes would be a whole other story.
