Sometimes it's a magical entity that possesses a princess. Sometimes a mental piece of tech that warps the target to a new way of thinking. Other times it's a monster that really wants to get back at the hero by turning his companions into monstrous lovers. Or even someone realizing that reality can be just a little bit bent to influence others.
