Chapter 31 by Almax Almax

What do you say?

"I'll join you!" (Go with Lexi and miss out on Free Time)

Lexi's face lights up at your answer, and she just about bounces in the ventbox in her happiness.

"Oh, great!" She says, meaningfully, before going still and continuing in a more serious, if still rushed and excited voice. "Alright, so, there's like a million different people I wanna spy on but if you're coming I'll start off with the one that I know is gonna be fun to watch, so that you don't get bored and scared away from doing this again. Have you heard of the Argent Sorority?"

{if@ Sorority == False}{if@ ArgentEnemy == False}You shake your head.{if ArgentOut == True} It sounds a little bit familiar to be honest, but you're not sure from where, and you're pretty forgetful in general....{endif}

"Oh, then you'll love this. C'mon, I'll give you our mission briefing on the trip."{else}You nod, and Lexi does a little bit of a double take, eyes bugging out of her head and mouth opening wide with joy.

"For REAL?"

You nod again. "They tried to get me to join them, actually. And sent me a pretty threatening letter because I got out of it.{if CumSuccess == 0} Cameron, too. He helped me to get out of it.{endif}"

Lexi nods slowly a few times, taking it in. "Wow. So you're like an expert then, huh? How much do you know about 'em?"

"Not much."

"Oh, good -- I was hoping I could give you the long explanation on the trip."{endif}

Lexi claps her hands together excitedly, before quickly rubbing them against each other and planting her palms firmly down against the vent in the most powerful crawling pose you've ever seen. She heads back out through the vent like a woman on a mission, which you guess she is, and you follow close behind her. Once again, it's really hard to keep track of where you are, but Lexi seems to know exactly where she's going. She doesn't even stop to glance out of the occasional grates to get her bearings. She must have a really good memory.

{if ArgentEnemy == True}"And by the way, if that's true about the threatening letter, don't worry. I'll totally kick their asses if they touch you, mark my words." She says, from behind the tight tushie wiggling in front of you as you both crawl through the vents.

Awwww. That's nice.{endif}

On the crawling journey, Lexi explains to you in full who the Argent Sorority are. At least, to the best of her knowledge.

Apparently everybody in the university is in one of three camps: a member, strongly and actively opposed to them, or unaware of them. They've been a part of Coinpilfer for a long time, and it seems unknown if the core members even change over time -- which is weird, given that they don't do classes and have been here for years, but are still student-looking in appearance.{if ArgentEnemy == True}{else} It all sounds pretty conspiracy-like.{endif}

Lexi herself thinks that they do change members over time, but gleefully tells you that she's really not sure at all, and they could very well be immortal beings for all she knows. Or monsters, in disguise! The mystery of it seems to really excite her.

She tells you that the reason the Argent Sorority is so actively opposed by the people who find out about it and don't join it is that it essentially thrives on corrupting prospect Warriors{if ArgentEnemy == True} like yourself{endif}, maybe through evil magic, taking good students that are here to fight monsters and protect people and changing them until all they care about is sex and personal pleasure. {if ArgentEnemy == True}It sounds like you've really dodged a bullet, by her account.....

{endif}Apparently it's something with such a huge impact that it's spread over into the world of graduated Warriors. Lexi makes it sound a bit like every real Warrior is just an untrained sex addict or something, which is just blatantly false on the macro level. First of all, because Warriors are awesome and you look up to them, but on a less personal point because they actively defend Kokkinport from monsters and lose their lives trying to take new land for the city to expand into. If it wasn't Lexi talking about something she's clearly having fun with, you'd probably even take it to be disrespectful....{if@ ArgentEnemy == False}

According to Lexi, Professor Phoebe is the Argent Sorority's biggest enemy, because she always does her best to keep her students out of their grasp and pushes them back constantly. And that's why none of you have been approached by them yet -- you just happened to get Professor Phoebe as your Combat teacher and therefore university mentor, and she's been keeping you all safe behind the scenes.

{else} {endif}You get the general sense that Lexi's sort of exaggerating things a lot, to be honest, {if ArgentEnemy == True}mostly because of what you've already seen about them.{else}but probably has the story rooted in truth. At least, some amount of truth. Like, a group with that name could exist. The rest seems a bit sensationalist, and the excited way she tells it to you is like how somebody would describe the events of their favourite book, not something like a real-world dangerous gathering. Still, it sounds like something that'll make for a fun game, and that's what lunchtime is all about, so you're happy to go along with it.{endif}

"So where are we headed?" You ask, crawling through the vents behind Lexi's wiggling tushie. {if@ ArgentEnemy == False}"Are we gonna blow up their underground headquarters?"

"They have those?" Lexi asks, looking over her shoulder at you. "Stellar. Nah, we can do that later. {else}"{endif}Right now, there's just a room I want to check out that's apparently linked to them. It doesn't show up on any maps of the school, but it's in the blueprints -- writing songs doesn't take too long, so I had some more time over the weekend to study those. Bedridden, woe is me and such. If the rumours are true, then they're probably using that room for something secret. And evil!"

Ooh, this is really exciting.{if@ ArgentEnemy == False} It's been so long since you've gotten to have harmless fun like this, and the added element of realism by sneaking through a vent just makes it cooler. You really feel like a proper secret agent!{endif}

Lexi tells you to stop, then crawls a short distance further in front of you and turns around in the vent. You look at each other, both on all fours in the roomy (but not roomy enough to sit up in properly) air vent, and Lexi grins. She reaches forward and pats the grate that sits in the vent floor between the two of you.

"This should be it." She says. "Am I going in first, or are you?"

{else}Oh. You have. You're one of them. Uhhh, she's not going to spy on your new friends, is she?

Lexi looks at you expectantly, smiling widely. Well, you should probably answer her before things get awkward, but it really sounds like Lexi's loyalties don't lie with your new friends in the Argent Sorority. Helping her out with something like this could be a breach of trust with the Sorority, but lying to her would be a breach of trust in your friendship.....

You're not really going to have to pick between Lexi and the Sorority, are you? You only just joined them, and it wasn't easy, but Lexi's been so nice......

Argh! Thinking and choosing things sucks!{endif}

What do you say?
