An empty backseat

Dean flung the back door open expecting to see something. All he saw was an empty backseat. He sat down where he was sitting before in the back. He looked forward in the car and Richard and Brooke were just sitting in their seats. Both of them were fully dressed and acting as if nothing just happened. Whatever they were doing, they stopped before Dean could see.

Dean spoke up, “Were you ever going to come back to get me?” Richard started the car up and started driving. Brooke answered Dean, “I was teaching him to drive silly, plus you were busy with a phone call!” Dean just shut up, there was no point in arguing, he just let it go.

Before they left the parking lot, Brooke and Richard switched seats so Brooke could drive them home. The rest of the car ride home was silent. They arrived home, Brooke entered the house first followed by Richard and then Dean. Both Brooke and Richard walked up the steps, Dean paused at the landing and watched them.

Brooke turned the corner to toward’s Dean’s bedroom while Richard walked straight into his room. Dean breathes a sigh of relief and then goes upstairs as well.

Dean reached his bedroom and it seems Brooke was in the bathroom already, the shower turned on while Dean entered the bedroom. He wanted to talk to Brooke but the bathroom door appeared to be locked when he tried to turn the doorknob.

Dean turned away from the door and looked around the room, what to do now? He remembered the box that was in her closet with the explicit pictures, the locked bedside drawer and the flash drive on her work computer. So many secrets it seems, but he doesn’t have enough time to play detective. Brooke at times can take a quick shower and he doesn’t want to risk being caught looking through her things.

After some thought Dean decides to look through Brooke’s things anyway, he first looks in her closet. He pushes his way through her clothes to get to the back where he remembered seeing the box. The pile of boxes that once were stacked in the back of her closet were now gone. Dean remembers most of them being empty but where did the box he was looking for go? He tried to look for it elsewhere in the closet but didn’t have any luck.

Dean exited the closet, Brooke was still showering, the water could still be heard. His eyes fixated on Brooke’s bedside table, she used to keep Dean’s paper of the early stages of the Master Plan in there, what else could she keep in there? He hurried over to the bedside table hoping for it to be unlocked.

Dean pulls on the handle of the drawer, it barely moves. He wasn’t sure if it was stuck or locked. Dean just noticed the lack of sound coming from the bathroom. He looked towards the bathroom and saw the door opening, he quickly rolled onto the bed to his side and tried to act inconspicuous.

Brooke walked out of the bathroom fully clothed with her hair wrapped up in a towel. She is surprised to see Dean just lounging on the bed, she says hi and goes about her business. Dean’s mind is stuck on the last thing he didn’t get to check for, the flash drive in Brooke’s office, it’s possible it’s still in her computer.

Dean sits up but this gets the attention of Brooke. She turns to him, “I have some work I have to get done that I put off today so I’ll be downstairs for awhile... don’t wait up!” Dean checked the clock, it was actually pretty late. Brooke walked out of the bed room to go to her home office. Dean just sat on the bed, well that ruined his plan to go to her office.

Dean got ready for bed, he looked at himself in the mirror. He thought, ‘what’s in store for me tomorrow?’ Dean laid down in bed, he looked over at Brooke’s drawer, he tried to pull it open, it was definitely locked. Defeated, Dean shuts his eyes for the night.
