“Jynx, I choose you!”

Ah, Jynx. Of course you recognize her. She’s a recognizable pokemon for sure! Maybe not for very good reasons, but recognizable just the same. Let’s see, she’s Psychic-type and… Oh no.

“Dugtrio, use Dig!”

Your only chance is to take the initiative and stop her before she can land an attack. But your hastiness is used against you. Jynx uses Powder Snow on the ground and falls back. When Dugtrio tries to land his attack, he bursts directly into the trap Jynx laid down. Jynx winds up for another attack, so you order Dugtrio to dodge. He must be too chilled from the snow, though, and he can’t react in time. Jynx delivers an Ice Punch that knocks Dugtrio out.

Ugh, it’s that stupid Ice-type again. Mankey would be a good match if it were just Ice, but she’s Psychic too. Onix is Rock-type, which is effective against Ice, but he’s also Ground, just like Dugtrio. But he’s sturdy! He can probably take an Ice Punch, and as long as he can outdamage her, he should come out on top!

“Onix, go!”

You try to read Sabrina’s reaction, but she just keeps smiling like a crazy girl. Which… yeah. No surprise there, considering she is one. But the way she just sits there silently while ordering her pokemon with her mind is creepy.

“Onix, use-”

Your order is interrupted as a few ominous notes come out of Jynx’s mouth. You wait, expecting some development in the battle to react to, but nothing happens.

“Uh… Onix, use, Rock Tomb!”

Ha! Direct hit! Rocks descend on Jynx one after another, pinning her beneath a pile of rubble. She manages to shove one of the rocks out of the way and stumble out, but she looks tired already, on the brink of fainting.

Jynx closes in on your Onyx, her hand glowing with ice, but she’s not moving very fast. This could be your chance to finish this! If you can go into the next battle with your Onyx at full strength, you’ll have a 2v1 advantage!

“Onix, use Rock Throw!”

Just before Jynx can connect her punch, a rock connects with her body. Unable to keep fighting, Jynx returns to Sabrina’s pokeball. Huh. This isn’t so bad! Maybe Master Kim just talked her up because of her own loss. If things keep going this way, you’ll have no-

Onix collapses on the battlefield, despite there not even being an opponent for him to fight. No attack, no status effect, nothing.

“What the heck happened!?”

“Jynx used Perish Song,” Sabrina explains brightly. “If a pokemon remains on the battlefield for too long, it will instantly faint. You shouldn’t underestimate your best friend, you know. You might hurt my feelings! You wouldn’t want that, RIGHT Emilia!?” Scary scary scary! “But more importantly, I don’t think your chances of winning are very good, considering you only have Mankey and Gloom left. Go, Kadabra!”

“HUH? How do you know what pokemon I have!? Did you look through my stuff!?”

With her terrifyingly pleasant demeanor, she declares, “Duh! Obviously I wanted to get to know you better! But technically I looked through your head, not your stuff. Anyway, just hurry up and lose! I can’t get that night we spent together out of my head. I need more!” Y-You’re seriously in trouble if you lose this…

“Hmph. You don’t know the first thing about me, and I’ll prove it! Golduck, go!”

“Kadabra, use Psybeam! Wait what.”

Golduck shrugs off the attack, looking mostly unaffected. Sabrina, on the other hand, looks shocked beyond comprehension.

“You caught another pokemon? That’s why I had to wait for so long? DID YOU EVEN THINK TO INVITE ME!?” She’s visibly shaken. Her smile is faltering, and her glowing eyes are wide with confusion. You can definitely win this.
