Fire some preliminary shots as they come in close!

As the two monsters rush you and Cameron, you rapid-fire off four shots from your pepperbox pistol, trying to cause a bit of preliminary damage. In your rushed panic the first three shots miss and sink into the nearby dirt or fly across the room. The fourth and final shot you fire makes contact, but bounces harmlessly from the left side of the super-quick monster's chitin-covered flank, only making a small pockmark in the hard natural armour.

The quicker of the two creatures reaches Cameron and quickly engages him, as he blocks the first of its scything strikes and answers back with his own bladed shield punches. The other monster, the one you just shot, takes no time at all to shake off the damage you did to it and is soon upon you. And about to hit you hard!

Eep! Blunt impact bullets don't mix well with monster chitin, got it!
