Chapter 168 by Colleem Colleem

Far away, Zatanna still heard the loud laughing voice of Sinestro.

"Stupid kid!"

Then she was in Dracula's castle. Confused, she looked around, not understanding how she had got there. But her rings were gone. All three of them!

"No! NO! NO! This can't be happening! Where's the Indigo Ring?!" she screamed in panic and hastily searched the ground beneath her. But she could not find the ring. The only protection she had against herself was gone. Dracula! She had to find it immediately!

She ran through the castle corridors as fast as she could until she reached the throne room. However, when she entered it, she stopped as if rooted to the spot. Behind the throne a big cross was rammed into the ground with the bones of a vampire hanging from it. Staked and laid out it was clear that this body was that of Dracula.

"What is going on here?" she asked stunned and walked closer to the body. With one hand she felt on the bones if they were real and as soon as she touched them she could feel the ancient power of Dracula. It was really him! He had been placed here as a warning. But who could have killed him? Only Bruce was able to take the fight to him! What was that about? Had there been another war in her absence.

Suddenly the skull turned to her and as if by magic the lower jaw moved when she heard the voice of Dracula.

"Where have you been? Why did you let this happen! I trusted you and it was only because of your greed that all this happened!" the voice of Dracula sounded from everywhere. Again, and again and again the voices echoed down from the walls until it became a deafening screech that Zatanna could no longer stand. She ran out of the room with her ears bleeding and suddenly found herself in Gotham.

But this city was barely recognizable. The buildings that had once been laboriously rebuilt lay in ruins. Wherever she looked, she could no longer see any humans, but the streets were full of werewolves. Hundreds were alone on the streets and if the howling in the streets was right, thousands of them lurked in the streets of the city.

She looked around in panic and searched for the World Tree, but in its place, she could only see a huge withered and dead tree. With a quick spell she teleported to this spot and stopped on one of the roofs. What she saw down there was almost more frightening than the sight of Dracula's corpse. Bruce had almost tripled his size and was about to eat another werewolf that was screaming in pain. Harley and Poison Ivy were close by and nothing about the three of them reminded me of a human.

"Bruce! What happened to you! You had got over it!" she sighed and immediately all three wolves looked up to her. Bruce's eyes were completely taken over by the wolf and she saw pure murderous lust in his eyes. Zatanna could just about jump back when the huge wolf landed on the roof in front of her and almost collapsed the roof. Shortly behind him Harley and Ivy arrived on the roof and yelled at her hungrily. Their mouths were full of blood and Harley contemptuously spat out a half-shattered skull.

"What happened to you! Bruce! It's me! Zatanna! Snap out of it!" cried Zatanna but she realized that there was nothing left of them. With one thought, she teleported herself far away from the city and saw thousands, no, millions of werewolves spreading from Gotham all over the world.

In panic, she watched as the monsters began hunting down innocent people. Though she wanted to, she could do nothing for them. 20 or 30 werewolves would lunge at any citizen who tried to flee. Alone, she could do nothing, so she teleported to the watchtower.

But when she arrived at the command center of the tower, all lights were dark. She could hardly see anything until she recognized some shadows. Slowly the sun turned over the planet and slowly started to illuminate the room. She could slowly see the outlines of Superman, Wonder Woman and others in the League. Relieved that the heroes were still alive, she called their names, but none of them reacted to her words.

Then she could see that the heroes of the earth were all on their knees and Dinah was sitting on a throne of bones and being worshipped by them. The new queen of the vampires looked down on Zatanna amused and smiled.

"Oh... Zatanna... glad you're back! Are you here to take your place at my side? Oh... as if I would give you a choice!" she smiled, and a shadow emerged from the shadows beside her.

"CONSTANTINE!" cried Zatanna in relief when she saw the old friend but then she saw his face. It was Constantine's face, but she could see the infinite suffering he had suffered.

"Dearest! Kill her slowly and painfully!" laughed Dinah.
