Trying to reach reception

There was no signs in this part of the hotel, as it was for staff and it was assumed they would know their way around, so it took Peggy several minutes of sneaking around to find the right door. She almost slipped up once, pushing open a door just a crack to see through she found a full dining room, with a waiter heading straight towards her. Peggy flattened herself against the wall behind the door as he came through and went past on the way to the kitchen, not noticing the toga-clad spy.

Eventually Peggy found a door which led to the reception, where she would be able to get another room key. She held the door open just an inch, waiting for the right time to make her way to the desk with minimal embarrassment.

After a few minutes she found her moment- the desk was manned by a female receptionist, there were no guests currently checking in, and the male concierge had stepped out of the room. There were two men sitting at the far end reading newspapers, but if she was quick and quiet she hoped they might not notice her. Peggy opened the door and began to dash across the tiled floor.

SNAP!

She felt her right stocking slipping down her leg as the garter snapped, the thin silk gathered under her foot as it slipped off, causing her to stumble. As Peggy tried to keep her balance she lost her grip on her tablecloth and it dropped to the floor.

While she was still trying to process the sudden disappearance of two of her precious remaining articles of clothing, the main doors swung open and a group of six men walked confidently in and headed for the desk.

"Oh, cripes!" Peggy exclaimed quietly, before ducking behind a laden luggage trolley.

As she tried to catch her breath, Peggy glanced out around the pile of suitcases in time to see a maid come over and pick up her dropped tablecloth. The maid looked confused as she found a stocking lying on the floor as well, then she shrugged and walked off with both items.
