Follow Terri

Terri sat in the little wooden room, waiting and worrying. Sally was probably chewing her fingernails off. James...was either cool and collected or an emotional mess. Or both. Her thoughts were interrupted when Officer Lacy walked into the room. She crossed her arms.

"So. You lied to me."

"You were a threat to my child.", she replied flatly. "I've been through interviews before. Where's your partner?"

"Not here."

Terri hid the extra worry that instilled. "Tape recorder?"

Lacy sat down. "Nope."

"Then I'm not suspect in anything.", Terri reclined and smirked.

Lacy shrugged. "Not yet...but falsifying legal records is big. We found out that the nurse we spoke to is your sister."

Terri nodded. "She didn't know anything about this...I didn't yet. I just knew something was up, and needed a cover."

"You realize how much trouble she's in if anything stinks here, right?"

Terri pursed her lips and shook her head halfway. "Mmmmno. I doubt there's even a record left of it by now. She wouldn't just leave a fake file like that around...probably never even put it in their server. It was probably on paper, with enough on her file to lead another nurse to her when you showed. I'd be shocked if you have any evidence."

"Other than my records."

"Which is just a nurse lying to an officer...not a crime unless she was under oath."

"Obstruction of justice is a crime."

"True...if you'd been pursuing a criminal. You were just doing preliminary interviews." Lacy clenched her jaw tight and went to leave the room. Terri called after her, "Oh, Officer? If I'm not under official suspicion here, I'd like to be going." Terri stood with a fake smile. Lacy took a deep breath and left, but allowed the door to hang open. Terri left quickly. Time to talk to Lee, and hopefully keep their fledgling relationship blooming...and if they can find out a way to get her children out of this mess, even better.
