Does someone stop him in time?
Unfortunately, no
Lee opened the door wide, with a smile. "Hello again, officer!" He recognized the police woman who had visited him several days ago, with another officer. A man, with dark hair and a young face. Aurora leapt out of her chair as the door swang open.
Too late.
Both police officers drew their guns, screaming. "Back up!"
"Right now! No one move!"
James was out of eye sight, and grabbed Aurora. They hurried into his bedroom.
Still too late.
Officer Lacy was in his bedroom doorway before he knew it, shouting. "Stop now! And keep her still!"
Aurora looked back and saw the gun trained on James. She put herself between them, her face full of tears and rage. She shimmered with red and orange nearly as bright as flashlights and bared her teeth. "Don't point that at him!", she demanded.
Lacy stood in a stunned silence for a moment, before grabbing her radio from her shoulder. She spoke clearly, reading out James's address and asked for backup, and walked around and behind the two of them. She didn't even give them time to speak to the others before handcuffing them each and taking them to her car.
On the way out, the two men in white suits greeted her. The shorter one, stepping out of a car, smiled bright. Aurora turned a bright red again, and her chest shimmered with the sick green color James had only seen once before. He still didn't know what it meant.
"There she is! Thank you, Officer Lacy. We can take her from here."
Lacy stuck Aurora in the back of her car. "No, gentlemen, chief said if we find her he wants full paperwork on our end showing the hand-off. She'll be put into the custody of whoever the placement program sends."
The taller man scowled, "They sent us."
She shook her head, sitting in the driver's seat. "Sorry, sir, but it's over my head. The feds want every detail on every Nova until further notice, you know that."
They walked back to their car, the shorter one visibly upset. "Fine, but we're following you back and when he makes the call we'll be there."
