"Hey, Buff, I got you this necklace," Xander said nervously as he passed it over to her, "now they all..."

"We shouldn't make things personal," Buffy said as she immediately handed it back.

Xander nodded glumly as Buffy walked off to talk with the other cheerleaders getting ready for try outs. Willow rubbed his shoulder, "It's okay, Xander. You know Buffy isn't the only girl in the world. Perhaps you..."

Xander stopped following what Willow was saying as he looked after Buffy. Part of him was happy that he had even one sexual encounter with her, though part of him wanted so much more. Things had been incredibly awkward between the two of them since the Harvest. He had a feeling that they wouldn't even be interacting outside the library if it wasn't for their shared friendship with Willow.

Speaking of his oldest friend, she still didn't know what his role in all of this was. That was going to be an awkward conversation.

The Cheerleader try outs were broken up by, like many things in Sunnydale, a seemingly supernatural event when a cheerleaders hands caught on fire. Xander took a seat in the bleachers while Buffy and Willow tried to help the injured girl.

"Hey, Xander."

"Oh, hi, Amy," Xander said as the girl came up. They had been friends going back awhile, though didn't talk much anymore. "You trying out as well?"

"Yeah, trying to live up to my mother's image," she said as she looked down at the floor. "You friends with the new girl?"

"We're working on it."

"Ah, you're looking for something more, she's not," Amy guessed.

"Well, you're not wrong."

"Tell you what. These try outs have gotten me a little antsy. Why don't we go have this discussion somewhere a bit more private."

It took Xander a few seconds to process her words, and the fact that she was leaning forward suggestively. He knew it wasn't just an offer to go for a casual conversation, but he had trouble imagining Amy had anything else in mind.
