End of Game

You close your eyes with your husband spooning you. As you sleep you see the words “end of simulation” in the blackness. Hydraulic hissing awakens you as the Cocoon opens up. It takes you a second to get your bearings and you remember. You were playing a game. A woman in a lab coat is standing in front of you with a clip board and recording device.

“Subject played Wedding Bliss for 12 hours. Finished the scenario within expected window of time. Cocoon glitch caused user to end up as Blushing Bride character. Additional glitch failed to revert physical changes. How are you feeling?” The scientist asked.

“What-who?” You ask.

“Subject appears disoriented, will attempt to explain,” she dictates then looks to you, “You were playing a simulation. For whatever reason the system physically transformed you into a woman to match your avatar.”

“I’m not a woman-?” You say confused. You look down to see your naked body. “I- Oh no!”

“Please have a seat,” the woman said pointing you to a comfy chair.

You sat down and held your soft face in your hands. Tears streaming down. Mascara smudging. “It was so nice, but I don’t... I’m a man!”

“Please go over the experience, I am here to help.”

“I was getting ready with my bridesmaids. I was just going with the motions. But the compliments... I felt so beautiful. And then my husband... my dad... it was like a dream.”

“Good, and how are you feeling now?”

“Mixed... I know I used to be a man, but I loved being a woman. Getting married, having...”

“Sex?”

“Yes...”

“Nothing to be ashamed about. But I need to let you know how Morph Co can help you,” the woman handed you a folder. “This will be treated as a workplace accident. You will be compensated. A new life can be yours. You will need to do an physical evaluation before you leave. But you will be barred from telling this story to anyone. Friends and family can be notified that you have undergone a sex change operation.”

“What about my husband?”

“Your husband never existed. He was a simulation created by the game.”

“But he felt so real... it’s hard.”

“Discerning reality from the simulation will be difficult. If you want we can plug you back in. Let you play the cocoon until you want to leave. But I warn you it might feel real, but it’s not reality.”
