A Bow (Ranger) (Neutral Good)

Among the menagerie of odds and ends, you spot a well crafted long bow and a quiver. You inspect the quiver to find a collection of diligently crafted, bodkin-tipped arrows. You give the string a good tug to find it has an appropriate resistance; too much more and it would be more difficult to pull back than would be worthwhile. Getting into a proper stance, you take the string all the way back to your ear and look down the sight as if hunting prey in the wild, which is when you notice something. Above each of the bars is a small stone protrusion, no larger than a gold coin. They look like they could theoretically be targets, you determine it's at least worth an attempt. Pulling an arrow back, you fire straight and true at your intended target. You think you hear the sound a mechanical gear turning, but there's no sign of change in the bars. Rapidly, you fire arrows at each other suspected targets, hitting each without fail. As the last one strikes, the bars drop precipitously through the floor, giving you a clear chance out of here. You recollect the arrows, surprisingly all still in good condition, and make your way through the darkened space.

As you make your way forward, the cold stone gives way to soft earth, the crinkling of dried leaves under your feet. You start to make light out overhead as stars and a crescent moon make their way through the thick forest canopy. Clearing the edge of the woods, you are able to see clearly, you are properly outfitted as a Ranger, just as you remember, protected by a combination of padded leather, long fabrics, and small chain guards, all to maximize being fleet of foot and quiet. There's no sign of your animal companion, a gray wolf you've raised since a cub, or the monster terrorizing the forests that you're hear to track. The neighboring hamlet put out a bounty for its head; a rather handsome reward given how small and meager the population is.

You've also heard word of new danger coming down from the mountainside. Goblins, trolls, and the like, pillaging whatever they can to bring back to their hovels in the caves. Some of the rumors have talked about the goblins looking for tribute, which is concerning. Most wouldn't think of goblins having the brains for religion or cult worship, and few deities would have the patience for goblins. Still, there may be some truth to it, and could be worth looking into.
