Summoning class day two

"What do you think Professor Hobbins will have us doing today?" Parisa asks you on the way to class.

"Probably something with our familiars." You repeat the answer Harmony gave you to the same question the night before. Just then you remembered Harmony would be in this class with you. You wondered if you should try to sit with her instead of Parisa and Lee. Would Parisa be offended if you sit with another girl? She did seem to be flirting with you in alchemy class but said you were only friends at lunch.

"I wonder if we should have brought them with us today." Parisa contemplates.

It takes you a second to shake your thoughts of the two girls and realize she is referring to your familiars. "Oh, he didn't say to bring them." You recall from the last class. Parisa shakes her head in agreement as she enters the class and you follow close behind.

You see Harmony in her seat at the front of the class. She gives you a quick glance as you enter but does not stare long. You think you can see a slight smirk lift the corners of her lips before she turns her attention back to the front of the classroom. All the seats at the front of the class are occupied, leaving your only option to sit with Parisa and Lee.

Lee greets you and Parisa as the two of you take your seats. "Hey, guys."

"Hi, Lee." Parisa says, smiling at him.

"Hey." You join in.

The class fills up and Professor Hobbins, seeing everyone is present, closes the door. "Good afternoon." He begins. "I see some of you brought your familiars with you. While we will be continuing our work with our familiars, we are going to start with summoning our familiars to us. So those of you who did not bring your familiar, don't worry. Those of you who did bring your familiars, bring them to the front of the room." He pauses for a moment while a few students bring their familiars up. "Good. Now, to call an already summoned familiar is actually rather easy. Its one of the few spells in this class that does not require a summoning circle. You and your familiar are already magically bound. A couple of simple words with the intent to summon them and they will be there for you. "Repeat after me, innuo adsignatos." He says the last bit slowly, enunciating clearly.

You think of Pharos sitting in your room and how you want him here in class with you. "Innuo adsignatos." You repeat the professor's words and suddenly the phoenix is standing at attention on your desk, looking at you inquisitively. Noticing everyone in the class has done the same, the familiars at the front of the classroom now back with their student masters.

"Excellent." Professor Hobbins continues. "Next, one of the most basic abilities of a familiar is to use their senses as your own. Adsignatos aspectu."

You focus on Pharos and again repeat the words as instructed. "Adsignatos aspectu." A rushing sensation fills your head and suddenly you are staring at yourself sitting at your desk. Your body is perfectly still and your eyes glow a dull white. Looking around the room, you see that most of the other students are at their desks in a similar state.

"While possessing your familiar's senses, you are cut off from your own, so be aware of that fact." The professor's words come from behind you now. "To end this, simply focus on your own body and open your eyes, so to say." You follow his guidance and you find yourself back in your own body. "Anyone have trouble?" No one speaks up. "Good. Good. Moving along. You can dismiss your familiar at any time, sending them back to your room or home. Sometimes they will even return to where they originally came from but can still be called back to you at a moment's notice. To do this, recite the words adsignatos dimitte."

You turn your attention to Pharos again. "Adsignatos dimitte." And the phoenix appears to shrink and twist into nothing, disappearing before you.

"Because of the close bond a wizard has with their familiar, these basic spells come easy and should give you no trouble. As some of you may have already figured out, they understand anything you say and should follow any direct command. Continuing to practice these spells, especially possessing their senses, and spending time with your familiar will strengthen your partnership. As your bond grows, you will be able to communicate telepathically with your familiar and, eventually, cast your spells through them. You may even be able to use some of their own natural abilities yourself. But that is for another time." Professor Hobbins explains. "Before the next class, I want you all to practice these spells and spend time experiencing things through your familiar's senses. We will spend one more day on our familiars before moving on to the next subject. You are all dismissed for now.

Everyone gathers up their things as the bell rings, ending the class. "I'll see you guys at the tryouts after class." You tell Lee and Parisa as you leave class and head off to last period.
