In his last moments of freedom, he used his powers to turn Jasmine into a genie, seal her in a lamp of her own, then teleport the lamp to a distant place where Aladdin would never be able to find it. For centuries Jasmine has been imprisoned in the lamp, unaware of the world changing around her, until eventually her lamp fell into the hands of a new master.
