Chapter 14
by
Ben Rosewood
Does Sarah have a backup?
Well, maybe in the attic...
"C'mon. Up in the attic."
That's when Miranda pops into your sight. "Is there another one up there?"
"Maybe. It's where I found the original."
After a shrug, the two of you follow Sarah upstairs, where she pulls down the attic ladder. As you climb up, you indulge in the fact that Sarah hadn't bothered to put on any bottoms to cover her plump rump
In the attic, you see two ornate chests in a dusty corner.
"How about you girls look through the chests. I'll see if there's anything else around."
"Got it."
The two girls rummage through the chests as you head over to a box. There, you find an old scrapbook, in which the first page has an old newspaper clipping stuck in it'
'Killer Sentenced to ****
After only an hour of deliberation, a jury found 37-year-old Victor Polk guilty of the 1967 **** and **** of 18-year-old high schooler Mary Lyon. It is believed he offered the teenager a lift from a party and took her out to the woods where he attacked and buried her. Mary's body was found by a hiker the next day.
Judge Michael Keller sentenced Mr. Polk to ****, stating that the defendant showed "No remorse" and was a "Cold, calculating sociopath who would likely attack again." Victor offered no comment and sat in silence as the sentence was handed down. A spokesperson for Mary's parents has stated that "They are glad the killer will never see the light of day."'
Flicking to the next page, you see a note scribbled on the page.
'July 9th, 1978
It's finally happened. They've fried that bastard in a chair. I hope every minute was ****. Even then I still got the raw end of the deal. I lost everything. My little angel, my loving husband, the life we had set out. Everything. I've tried talking to them with this Oujia board, but to no avail...'
Upon reading about the Oujia board, you put the book down and delve into the box. You hope to find another board or at least a planchette, ignoring the various photos and journals. To no avail, you start throwing items around the attic.
"Find anything?" Miranda asks.
"Only that the person who has possessed Tom is a murderer."
"Great, I was hoping it was nice ghost that could show us some hidden treasure." Sarah jests.
"Well maybe you shouldn't have played with a ghost to begin with." Miranda states.
Sarah rolls her eyes. "Yeah yeah, hindsight and all that."
"So where could we find a planchette?" You ask.
"Well there's that occult shop." Sarah states.
"That's probably closed." Miranda interjects.
"Well, we might have to break in. They'd understand. Ghost situation and all that."
"Uhh, maybe we could ask Matt for help before we do anything too ****."
You pull out your phone, hoping your friend has a solution to your predicament. Unfortunately, he doesn't even answer your call, much to your frustration.
Why didn't Matt answer?
