Does this lead where I think it's going?
Mostly
"That," Jan said, "is completely hot." She stepped close to him and ran a red-lacquered fingernail down his chest. "How can you do that?"
A part of him wanted to tell her. They'd gone through a lot together meeting in college, marrying when they were in their early twenties, building careers, even, for a while, discussing whether to start a family. During all that time, they'd been each others' fans, sharing their hopes and fears, dreams and desires. Except they hadn't shared all their secrets. Jan hadn't bothered sharing the couple of affairs she'd had.
Considering his dubious legal position with regard to his remaining doses of bio-DNA, Rick decided this was not the time to share.
He studied Jan's face for signs of doubt and saw all of the signs of desire. Her pupils had dilated, her lips seemed just a little more full than normal. A pulse in her neck raced. Her breathing was slightly fast, something that might be partly due to the martial arts kata she'd recently done, but that Rick concluded was also due to arousal.
Rick didn't have any illusions about a future with his ex-wife. They'd been through too much, said too much, done too much. But that didn't mean he wasn't interested in a right now.
He picked her up and carried her into her house.
To his left was the bedroom they'd shared. To his left was the guest bedroom. Straight ahead was the kitchen. He almost took the instinctive step toward the bedroom but stopped himself before he'd actually moved. He wasn't rekindling an old romance in an old bed in a familiar old bedroom. He was doing something new. On the other hand, he hadn't actually seen a bed for a couple of nights now. Sleeping between actual sheets on an actual mattress had an appeal.
