Well, did he do wrong?
Uh, nothing!
His brain snapped each of the moves Jan had made into place and instantly translated them into motion. He didn't do it as slowly as she had... that would have been painful... but he made each strike distinct, made sure he showed his balance with each move rather than letting gravity force his movement.
He was breathing a little hard when he finished... it wasn't that he'd exhausted himself, it just seemed he needed a lot of oxygen. Still, he bowed to her and grinned. "Well, how was it."
"That," she said slowly, "is complete bullshit. There's no way you could just watch me and do the form."
"Show me another one, then."
"Fine, try this one." She stood balanced on one leg, her right foot tucked behind her left knee, then launched herself into motion.
She probably thought she was moving fast but to Rick, she might as well have been doing Taiji. Every move seemed exaggerated, every step deliberate.
Without waiting for her permission, he took the one-legged stance and, the second she'd ended her form, launched into his own version.
She watched him incredulously. "No way."
He grinned when he'd finished. "Yeah, way."
He noticed her eyes had drifted from his and looked down. Yeah, maybe it had been a mistake to do martial arts kata wearing nothing but a bathrobe. Considering the kicks he'd been throwing, it was no surprise that the robe had gaped open exposing his body to the hot Texas air.
"You... you've lost some weight."
"You, too. You look fabulous, by the way."
