A familiar voice

Once Heather began paddling again, the trip back to the dock took no time at all. Due to the thickness of the fog, neither of the teens wanted to be on the lake any longer than they had to be. The pair seemed to pick up more speed with each stroke despite not being able to see clearly for more than a few feet in front of their canoe.

“Yup. That’s Gavin’s lighthouse,” Zack stated. “Almost there, Baby!”

“Good. I’m getting hungry again,” Heather replied.

“Not surprised. It is about an hour or so after lunchtime.”

“Not the hunger I was referring to, Hot Stuff!” the brunette winked at the boy over her shoulder. Whether or not Zack saw her, Heather didn’t care. She knew he got the hint.

Just as Zack was about to make a reply, a feminine voice called out to them from the shore.

“ZACK? HEATHER? IS THAT YOU?”

“ALL DEPENDS ON WHICH ZACK AND HEATHER YOU’RE LOOKING FOR!” Zack answered back.

“SMARTASS!”

“Sounds like Ashley,” Zack informed his girlfriend.

“EVERYTHING OKAY ASH?” Heather asked her friend.

“YEAH. VICKY AND GAVIN ARE WATCHING ANOTHER STUPID FANTASY MOVIE, SO I CAME OUT HERE TO LOOK FOR YOU GUYS! BRANDON! KURT! THEY'RE BACK!”

“My guess is we’re about two to three hundred yards to the dock. Should be there in about five minutes or so.”

“Good. Can’t wait to take a shower because you stink, Bishop!” laughed Heather.

“Hey, if I stink it’s because my girlfriend has a very particular workout that is couples oriented and she insisted that we do it several times yesterday.”

“She only insisted because her new boyfriend is skilled at said workout. VERY skilled!”

“Okay, you got me there!” Zack giggled. “Now quite goofing off before you steer us into the dock!”

Heather took the opportunity to use her paddle to splash some water at her boyfriend. Zack gasped when the cold liquid hit him, which caused Heather to laugh. Just as Zack was about to splash her back, the fog peeled away revealing the edge of the dock and a waiting Ashley.
