Chapter 33 by Blues32 Blues32

Push harder? Or leave her alone?

She's had enough.

She DID ask me to stop. Shrugging, I took another bite of the physics defying pancakes. "If you say so, Gaz. I'm not trying to make you uncomfortable," I assured her. The expression on her face was a mixture of disappointment and relief at the same time. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking. I can't be that good at reading faces, can I?

With a loud crunch, Gaz bit into a slice of bacon. Way too loud a crunch. "Hmph. You were too," she accused. She opened an eye and stared at the bacon slice between her fingers. I wasn't sure what she was thinking before she opened her mouth wide and crammed the rest in. "Tasht funny sho um getting it ober wff." That was supposed to be an explanation, I'm sure.

Curious, I picked up a slice of bacon and tried to bite into it. It was far harder than I expected. Despite that, it crumbled between my teeth, nearly becoming a powder in my mouth. I coughed. "Jeeez, Gaz, how can you eat this?!" I choked out. "It's burnt to all hell..." I chugged my orange juice to get rid of the taste.

She cleared her throat nervously. "Well...y...you made it for me, so..." she muttered. "You didn't have to do that, Gaz." "I've eaten worse, John, don't worry." I chuckled. "You're one of a kind, Gaz." Her cheeks turned pink again. "You said you'd stop that..."

I held up my hands. "Sorry, sorry. Compliment felt necessary at the time." She gave me a brief look of annoyance for a moment before she resumed eating. We finished eating and I insisted on washing the dishes. "So...what do you want to do today?" I asked.

What's her response?
