Chapter 40

How does it go?
Bonding, not so much. But impressing the girl? Better.
Now, John was no betting man (he always disliked gambling mechanics in video games), but he was pretty sure that he could guess the elements of the wolves according to their color: The blue one would be water, the yellow one would be lightning, and the black one probably darkness or something like that he was the least sure about that one. His theory got confirmed, however, as the black one disappeared from his view reappeared from a shadow in the corner of his eye, already in full flight. He didn't have enough time to dodge, but thankfully he could at least put up his shield in the last second to try and block that attack.
Block successful! Blocking 29 damage
-13 HP (reduced by 9 due to Def)
3 DMG (Armor)
Oh wow, if he would've encountered these things yesterday, he would already be mostly toast... Not wasting time though John quickly used Counter against the wolf that just attacked him, barely registering what was going on with the other wolves.
Counter! Bonus damage added!
Vital Area! 4x Damage!
56 DMG + 15 DMG (Light) + 44 DMG when pulling out + 28 DMG (Counter)
Blinded! Enemy is 50% more likely to miss. Damage dealt to enemy increased by 1.5x
Stabbing the wolf straight into the eye, John got an idea that he wanted to try, and now it was the best moment to do so, so he cast Magic Rope around the front legs and the muzzle, tying everything tight and disabling the wolf for now even though it was struggling a lot, trying to break the bindings, maybe he would be able to get that thing on his side. For now, he would leave it here though, so he could help Kim with her two enemies.
Well, there was nothing to help her with, seeing as how she already defeated both of them, rather easily as it seemed since she didn't even break a sweat. While he wanted to go to her and help her, she was already on her way to do the same for him. Looking at his bound enemy, Kim nodded approvingly, "For someone who has his powers for less than two days, you seem to hold yourself rather well in a fight. These creatures might not hold a candle to someone like me, but for someone inexperienced, they can be a big problem. So, what do you plan to do with this one, seeing as how you didn't finish him off?"
John wasn't quite sure how to answer that question. Should he tell her about his Bond ability? Or would that just make matters worse? For now, it would probably be best if he avoided the full truth, "Experiments. I have a certain skill that I want to see if it works on these..." He should keep it brief though, that rope was very slowly draining him and he wanted to have enough Mana left for the boss fight... Looking over the black wolf in front of him, John cast Bond to see if the creature had submitted.
Bond failed, creature has not submitted to you.
Damn, and that thing was pretty epic actually, but he couldn't help it if it was too stubborn. Sadly he also had too little time and too little possibilities to properly 'convince' the wolf on joining him/working for him. "Well, didn't work. Do you want to prepare before I kill it and it spawns the boss?"
She just shook her head while looking at him "I do not. Do you need a moment?"
Looking around, John saw the drops of those things lying around, "Actually, give me a minute, I need to collect the things these wolves have dropped, they could be pretty valuable."
That got Kim's attention again, "Wait a second, are you telling me that these creatures actually have rewards for you? That's impossible; these things should not leave anything behind once they die, that's how it always has been."
This confused John, "Are you telling me that you can't see the things lying on the ground here?"
Picking up one of the furs transferred it directly into his inventory, from where he took it out to show it to Kim, who now looked at him with wide eyes. "This should not be possible, I did not skin this creature, how did you attain its fur? And it is actually magical; this seems highly suspect to me... You have to explain this to me in detail at a later date, preferably in a conversation with my clan, my father needs to learn about this..."
John meanwhile collected all of the drops which totaled up to:
3x Elemental Fur (1x Water, 1x Fire, 1x Frost)
1x Elemental Fang (1x Water)
160$
Looking at the things John asked Kim, "Do you want anything of this? Since you killed most of them, it would only be fair that you get a fair share. 50/50 split on the money?"
Kim nodded acceptingly to that, "I'll take one of these furs, preferably the one from the frost one, it seems like it could be useful. And keep the money, I don't need that kind of change, and you seem like you could use it for now."
Shrugging his shoulders, he handed her the pelt of the Frost Elemental Wolf while stuffing a piece of pizza into his mouth to boost up his regeneration. Thank Gaia for that apparent time freeze in his inventory, the pizza was just as warm as it was yesterday.
After eating the piece he quickly dealt with the bound wolf, instantly killing it with another stab to the head. That prompted a pop-up to appear, just as John expected:

The appearance of the wolf was also heralded by a mighty howl coming from the courtyard in the middle of the building. Running to one of the rooms facing inwards, John and Kim could see that there now was a wolf, twice as high as the last ones and glowing in all the different colors of the rainbow. While John tried to find a way into the courtyard, Kim took the quick way, jumping out of the window and landing there directly. Shit, if Kim killed the boss alone, he would like not get any XP for that... That threw up the question: Was there a party system?
Thinking quickly, John cast Magic Rope for the second time now, this time instead letting the rope knot itself around a protruding rock in the window he was just looking through and swing himself outside on the rope, reducing the height between himself and the ground, making it mostly safe for him to let go now.
Coming to a stop next to Kim he was wondering why she hadn't attacked the boss yet, "Soo, what's the plan?"
"Actually, I think I'm going to let you fight this one for now. It's your objective we have to clear here, so I think you should be the one fighting the 'boss'. Don't worry, if you should fail, then I will intervene and stop this creature, but I must say I am interested in seeing you deal with this one on your own." Was she serious? He would have to fight the thing alone? Granted, it probably wasn't that bad seeing how easily he took out the other wolves, but this would still be a fight that he had to look out for... First things first though, Observe:

Oookay, this would take quite a while... Checking his spear, he still had enough charges to go for around 30 minutes (feeling way longer than they actually were here). He then slowly went up to the beast, trying to sneak up on it to get a sneak attack to start up the fight.
Time to fight an actual boss!
