Vicky and Heather

Vicky sat in the passenger seat of Zack’s car with the door open while she waited for him. The blonde stared off into the woods while he was inside gathering her things. A small smile came to her face when she thought of how Zack had stood up for her. The small gesture reminded her of something her ex-boyfriend Dustin would do for her. He had moved away the previous fall and every guy Vicky had dated after that was compared to him. So far none had even come close to measuring up to the kind, caring, compassionate soul that was Dustin Lewis. Vicky shut her eyes and thought of her ex and all the sweet things he did for her. As she tried to picture him doing them, she saw Zack standing in Dustin’s place. She shook her head twice and tried to think of Dustin, but all she could think of was Zack and his deep blue eyes.

“What does THAT mean?” Victoria asked herself. The sudden sound of footsteps coming from the cabin shook her from her thoughts. “Did you get everything, Zack?”

“Why are you leaving?” Heather asked. “More importantly: Why are you making Zack leave?”

“I…I’m sorry Heather. I just can’t be here right now,” Victoria tried to brush off the brunette cheer captain.

“Okay. But why make Zack leave? Can’t you have someone pick you up? Why ruin his trip too?”

“I asked him to take me home; he said ‘Yes!’ Besides, I told him he can come back after dropping me off. Now, please just let me go. I promise I’ll be back in a couple of days when Hannah leaves,” the blonde told her friend as she noticed Zack coming out of the cabin.

“You ‘told’ him he could come back? What is he, your puppy dog or something?” Heather fumed.

Not wanting to explain herself anymore, Vicky shut the car door and fastened her seat belt while Zack threw everything in the back seat of his car.

“Hey Heather! We’ll be back in a few days,” Zack told his other friend as she went back inside.

“WHATEVER! Good luck figuring that girl out Zack, because I sure as Hell can’t!” Heather said angrily as she hopped up the front porch of the cabin and slammed the door behind her.

“Did you get everything, Zack?” Victoria asked him.

“I had Chloe grab your things because I didn’t know what was yours. Do you want to check before we leave?” he admitted to his passenger.

After doing a quick check through her suitcase and a rather long check through her purse, Vicky flashed a “Thumbs up!” to Zack. He put the key in the ignition and gave it a turn. When the car’s engine roared back to life, he backed out of the driveway and started the return trip to Azure Rocks.
