What's next?
on a silver platter
The night had not been sleep, but a thick, feverish wait. Every time I turned on the thin mattress, the resin cylinder ground dryly across raw flesh. Fourteen days without the faintest relief left my pelvis throbbing in dull, burning waves. Every involuntary swell pressed immediately against unyielding walls, breaking down into a blunt ache.
When the alarm vibrated on my nightstand at exactly half past six, I reached for the phone. The screen was locked: **Kidslox – Device Actively Monitored**. No apps, no private chats, just the unbroken tally of step counts and sleep cycles. High up on the wall above the bedroom door, the small black lens of the newly mounted camera caught the pale morning light. Its tiny blue status LED glowed silently. Every breath, every step out of bed was logged.
In the kitchen, the espresso machine hissed. The aroma of fresh coffee filled the flat, yet the air turned freezing the moment Loona approached. She wore dark, fitted denim and a loose white silk camisole. Her expression was entirely undisturbed, her features smooth and detached, as if the intimate humiliation of the previous evening had never occurred.
She glided past in silence, inspecting the polished worktops before setting a basket of freshly made, snow-white bed linens onto the living room sofa. As she turned, her right hand brushed the seam of her pocket in a casual motion. A tiny metallic chime rang out as her fingers knocked against the keys. Her gaze locked with mine—for merely half a second, yet so razor-sharp that my heart jumped straight into my throat. The pact stood. She was reminding me of the currency.
My head spun in a tearing storm of contradictions. Raw panic over what was coming bled into a toxic, burning jealousy toward Timo. Yet deep beneath it, my tortured body screamed for release, clinging to the faint prospect that this piece of brass would finally unlock me from the resin tonight.
At eleven sharp, the intercom buzzer drilled through the silence.
A heavy jolt struck my chest. I pressed the release button, opened the double doors, and moments later heavy footfalls bounded up the staircase, accompanied by a loud, familiar voice.
"Alright, where's the new headquarters?" Timo called out.
He stepped through the frame, shoulders broad, carrying a flat case of canned beers and sodas, sunglasses perched casually in his hair. He radiated his typical, effortless swagger. His eyes swept across the polished floorboards before settling on me, a broad, honest grin breaking across his face.
"Bro, John! Look at you!" he laughed, setting the case down and clapping my upper arm firmly before pulling me into a quick shoulder grip. "You're looking properly ripped, man. What's going on here, boot camp? Thought I'd drop by and save you from the moving clutter. Feels like forever since we actually caught up."
"Yeah… really good to see you, man," I managed, fighting to keep the tremor out of my voice.
Loona stepped out from the living room. The second her eyes fell on Timo, every shred of frost melted away. Her demeanor shifted with terrifying precision. Her face lit up, eyes bright, a warm, captivating smile gracing her lips.
"Timo! So glad you made it," she purred, walking right up to him and drawing him into an affectionate embrace. Her hand lingered a beat longer along his forearm, fingers lightly tracing his tricep. "And thanks for bringing drinks. We're practically dying of thirst here."
"Anytime for you guys," Timo grinned, visibly flattered by the reception, before quickly turning back toward me. "John, tell me, how's uni looking? Finally wrap up that module? Let's crack one open right away."
"John will get these cans into the fridge and grab us some glasses, then we can all sit down," Loona chimed in smoothly, resting a hand against his back to guide him toward the sofa. "Come get settled first."
I carried the drinks to the kitchen, stacked them away, and brought glasses to the living room. The next half hour unfolded as a slow, agonizing trial: Timo repeatedly looped me into the conversation, asking about old friends and our plans, while Loona drifted progressively closer to his side. She laughed at all his jokes, tossed her dark hair back, brushed her hand along his jeans, and cast glances that left no room to doubt her intentions. Beneath my stiff trousers, the resin shell flared with every minor adjustment; the denim abraded sensitive edges while I sat alongside them, feeling the noose pull tighter by the second.
Eventually, Loona drained her glass, leaning back with a tilted head and an appealing pout directed at Timo.
"My drink's gone warm already," she murmured. "Be a sweetheart and grab us two more cans and some ice from the kitchen."
"On it," Timo agreed, getting to his feet and gesturing toward me. "Come with, John, give me a hand finding things."
In the kitchen, Timo pulled the swing door nearly shut behind us with his heel. The cold hiss of the first opening can broke the heavy quiet.
He propped his elbows on the counter, peered through the crack in the door toward the living room where Loona was smoothing down her silk top, and turned back to me with wide, disbelieving eyes. A stunned, breathless grin broke across his face.
"Man, dead serious… I have to hand it to you," he whispered under his breath, shaking his head. "Mad respect. Living here alone with Loona? How do you even survive that? She has gotten unreal—so insanely hot, it makes no sense."
My stomach dropped like lead. My pulse raced wildly as I stood gripped to the edge of the sink.
"No bullshit, John," he pressed on quietly, leaning closer. "I'm sitting over there having a serious problem keeping my hands to myself. The way she looks at you, the way she moves… I'm practically losing it just when she brushes my arm. But look: I know this is your territory. She's your stepsister, you live here together, you've got first claim. Don't sweat it, bro. I'm your best mate; I'm definitely not poaching on your turf."
The words struck like a heavy bell in my head. He was offering loyalty. Holding back out of respect for me. He actually believed I held the leverage, the status, the authority here.
Yet beneath his words lay the brutal reality: if I agreed, if I staked my claim, the key was lost forever. Loona would dismantle me for stepping out of line. The resin cage would stay sealed, the ache and the constriction consuming me day after day. After fourteen days of suffocating frustration, my craving for release drowned out every scrap of self-respect.
Swallowing the bitter bile, I drew a slow breath and forced an easy, confident smile.
"Go right ahead, Timo," I said, my voice shockingly level, almost amused. "Seriously. You don't need to hold back at all."
Timo paused, the opened can frozen halfway to his mouth. His brows furrowed in surprise. "What do you mean?"
"Take a look at her," I continued, every syllable feeling like an open cut I was carving into myself. "You can tell Loona is completely into you. The signs aren't subtle. And honestly… I couldn't care less about stuff like that. There's no territory to protect. Things between her and me are totally relaxed. If she wants you and you're down for it, take what you can get. As far as I'm concerned, you've got a completely green light."
For two long seconds, Timo stared with his mouth slightly open, letting the words sink in. Then a huge, triumphant grin spread across his face.
"Are you serious right now?" he burst out with a husky, excited laugh. Stepping forward, he slapped my shoulder with an open palm so hard that the shockwave rattled down my spine, driving the rigid casing hard against my pubic bone. "Man… you are the absolute best! A true legend, John. I swear, any other guy would lose his mind with jealousy. But you're just completely chill."
Grabbing the cold cans, he shoved the kitchen door open and walked back into the living room with a puffed-out chest and a confident stride, ready to collect the prize I had just served him on a silver platter.
I followed slowly, stopping at the edge of the doorway.
Loona took her drink from him with a beaming smile, leaning deliberately against his side—before slowly turning her eyes toward me.
Her smile never faded, but those emerald eyes narrowed into two freezing, triumphant blades. She had caught every single word through the door. She saw my rigid stance, my hands clenched inside my pockets, and my silent, broken compliance. Then her gaze traveled deliberately down the hall toward my bedroom door.
A barely perceptible, dismissive tilt of her chin.
Not a single word was needed. Turning around, I dragged heavy, numb feet down the corridor into my room and pulled the solid wooden door shut behind me. The latch clicked softly into place. Out in the living area, Timo turned the music up, immediately answered by Loona’s bright, playful giggle.
I sank to my knees, forehead resting against the wood of the door. The resin cage pulsed like molten lead beneath my jeans. Entirely isolated, trapped within my own skin—waiting with a hammering heart for her to keep her promise once she was finished with him.
