Maya invites you to the library

As class lets out, Maya starts packing her things. She glances over at me.

“Hey, you heading to the library after this?”

“Yeah, probably. I’ve got a bunch of stuff to get through.”

“Same. I was thinking about going over there for a few hours.” She pauses for a second. “You wanna study together? Could be nice to know someone in the class.”

“Yeah, I’d be down.”

As I pack my things, I hesitate for a moment. My girlfriend crosses my mind. Spending time alone with another girl probably isn’t something she’d love, but this is just studying. There’s nothing romantic about sitting in a library and going over classwork. It’s not a big deal, I tell myself. I’m not doing anything wrong.

“Cool,” Maya says. “I’ll see you there later.”

I smile. “Yeah. See you.”

I watch her walk out with the crowd before heading toward my next class, reminding myself that it’s just studying. Nothing more.
