What's next?
you never had a chance
Sandra keeps the soft, wife-like treatment going without a single crack.
In the late afternoon she quietly takes over the kitchen and cooks one of your actual favourite meals from scratch—the full version, not the half-assed pasta or toast of the previous days. The smell fills the house while she works completely naked, humming under her breath, occasionally glancing over her shoulder at you with that same warm, certain little smile. When she finally sets the plate in front of you it is the first real, deliberate, full-effort meal either of you has produced since the marathon began. She watches you eat with open satisfaction, chin resting on one hand, as if feeding you properly is simply another part of the role she has decided to inhabit today.
Afterward she waves you off and starts the dishes herself.
You last maybe two minutes before you cross the kitchen and drape yourself over her from behind.
Your arms slide around her waist, palms settling low on her stomach. You kiss the side of her neck, then the spot just below her ear, while one hand drifts upward to cup and gently play with her bare breast. She is warm and soft and still slightly damp from the earlier heat of the stove. The position is easy, familiar, and quietly intimate.
The joke leaves your mouth before you can overthink it any further. It already took more courage than you expected.
“Don’t make your best friend fall in love with you if you’re going to behave like this.”
You meant it to fluster her—to make her go red and shove an elbow back into your ribs the way she always has when you push a little too close to something real. You braced for the usual teasing deflection.
Instead Sandra leans back into your chest.
She turns her head just enough to catch your mouth in a slow, soft kiss, then rests her cheek against yours. Her voice is calm, almost gentle, when she answers.
“Then you sadly don’t have a choice. You’ll just have to fall for me.”
The words land with perfect, quiet certainty.
You freeze.
Whatever clever follow-up you might have had evaporates. Heat rushes straight up your neck and into your face. You are suddenly the one flustered, caught off-balance by how easily she turned the line around and how little she seemed to be joking. Your hands are still on her body, your mouth still close to her temple, and for a moment you cannot decide whether to laugh it off, tighten your arms, or simply stay there in stunned silence.
You try to recover the upper hand the only way you know how—light, stubborn bickering that isn’t meant to wound.
“Oh, you’re so sure that’s going to happen?”
Sandra doesn’t even look up from the sink.
“Of course it will.”
“Just like that? No chance I resist?”
“None.”
“Pretty confident for someone still washing my dishes.”
“I’ve always been confident when I’m right.”
The back-and-forth drifts on like that for a while—soft jabs, half-smiles, her body still relaxed against the counter while your arms stay loosely around her. It feels almost like the old days, except the air between every line is heavier and warmer than it ever used to be. You keep pushing, trying to find the crack in her certainty, until the only question left is the direct one.
“What makes you so sure?”
Sandra turns in your arms.
She rises onto her toes, cups the back of your neck, and kisses you once—slow and deliberate—before answering against your lips.
“Because I already love you. And I’ve always been able to make you play the games I want.”
The words land without armour.
Whatever clever reply you might have reached for dies immediately. You can only pull her tighter and kiss her back, deeper and more honestly than before. The admission follows between one kiss and the next, spoken into her mouth while your hands slide down to her bare hips.
“You’re right. I lose.”
She makes a small, satisfied sound and then the two of you are moving without further discussion. The dishes are left half-done in the sink. You barely make it to the couch before she is under you (or over you—positions blur). The sex that follows is different from the breeding-focused intensity of the previous days: still deep, still constant, still ending with you filling her, but threaded through with the new knowledge that the feelings are mutual and spoken. You keep kissing through most of it. She keeps saying your name like it means something more now.
By the time you both collapse you are a tangle of tired limbs on the too-small couch, skin sticky, breathing hard, the forgotten plates still sitting in the kitchen. Sandra is half on top of you, cheek against your chest, one of your hands resting low on her back. The silence that settles is comfortable but charged.
After a long minute she speaks first, voice quiet and a little rough.
“…So what does this make us now?”
